Kodi 15.1 Isengard – Maintenance release

Posted By: Martijn Kaijser on Aug 16, 2015 in Release Announcements
Kodi Isengard System 15.0

Once a ‘final’ version is released some new bugs and/or problems usually appear out of nowhere, and last release was no exception. Even though tens of thousands of users were already testing the 15.0 version before release, as soon as million started using it, some problems we either did not think of or which we did not notice popped up. To counter some of these new issues, we’re bringing you this maintenance release called 15.1 which has some additional fixes on top of the 15.0 release. To be safe just backup your userdata (online manual) first.
It should be ok to just install this on top of your current Kodi 15.0 version. For the MySQL users out there; we never bump the database versions in our bugfix or maintenance releases – you can safely keep using it within your network. For additional information about version 15 or upgrading you can visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.

We will continue to solve some remaining issues and release it as a next point release in the 15.x range.

The complete technical list can be found on our Github milestones.

Improvements so far in 15.0 and 15.1

More in depth information can be found through the following links about the 15.0 release.

General: So far in 15.x there are no add-on changes that would impact any add-ons except for PVR. Since our 12.x Frodo release there have been some gradual changes but in general all add-ons, even from that time should still work, of course there are some exceptions. If the add-ons worked in Gotham and in Helix then we are happy to say that all these add-ons should still work.

Skins: As of this moment, all skins that worked in 14.x Helix should still work in 15.x Isengard. In the PVR sections there are certain changes that might be noticeable and need specific skin changes. These changes are minimal and shouldn’t cause any major problems in usability. There still might be some options still missing which you relied upon first. We’re sure that most skin creators will be updating the skins in due time. Before that happens you should be able to enjoy this beta build without any problems.

Windows 10

Users who have installed Windows 10 should make sure that they have the correct video card drivers installed. We see a lot of problems that have to do with this reported on the forum. It’s not something we as team can do anything about. Make sure you have updated all drivers according to the manufacturers website in case you are experiencing problems. Windows 10 has just been released and as such is still in active development. Another thing that might be helpful is installing the special Kodi 15.1 DirectX11 build which is mentioned a bit further down.

DirectX 11 upgrade (not included in 15.0 or 15.1)

DX11Although this release post is all about the 15.1 version, mentioning the DX11 upgrade for next version is very important. Since switching from OpenGL in 2009, Kodi (and XBMC in the past) has used the DirectX 9 implementation for various tasks of rendering the user interface and media playback. This almost dates back to the XBOX days. With the hardware industry moving and focussing more on the newer DX11 with their drivers, more people have problems with running our outdated DX 9 version. This could range from simply not starting, crashing just after loading, playing videos or having problems with hardware acceleration. One of our developers afedchin took on this task and completely revised our DirectX 9 implementation and upgraded it to the more current standard of DirectX 11. Don’t worry if you still have an older card, we only use low level features so you don’t need to run to the shop for new gear. If you are having problems on Windows you can head to our forum where you can find the most recent build available which is currently based on our 15.0 release. We appreciate all the feedback we can get. Read more: here on our forum. Again this will not be part of our 15.x releases. It has already been successfully merged into our future 16.0 release.

Like Kodi™ itself, both official remotes are free and open source software.

Get involved

Getting involved is quite easy. Simply take the plunge and start using these 15.0 Isengard builds. If you use these builds, we encourage you to report problems with these builds on our forum first and after that, if asked, submit bugs on Trac (following this guide: How to submit a bug report). Do note that we need detailed information so we can investigate the issue. We also appreciate providing support to other users in our Forums where you can, or donate to the XBMC Foundation if you like. You can of course also follow or help promote Kodi on all available social networks. Read more on the get involved page.

thank you for the great work guys. is it teletext still broken? you don’t see the numbers you entered. :/

  • Mr. Guy Aug 16, 2015

Native keyboard on iOS? I don’t own an iOS device, so I’m not quite certain what that means, but does native keyboard mean the OS-provided keyboard?

If so, why doesn’t the Android version support native keyboard? Is it planned for a future release?

    • Ned Scott Aug 23, 2015

      Different code.

I don’t know if anyone is working on it at the moment. It is something we would welcome.

      • Jon Aug 25, 2015

Native android I’m put would be awesome… Then we would be able to use voice search!

  • Khalid Aug 16, 2015

Great to see 15.1 has been released … fantastic job, you guys rock!

I really hope RetroPlayer will make it into Kodi 16… How realistic is this based on the current beta state of RetroPlayer?

    • Ego Aug 16, 2015

Test builds are still pretty basic, maybe by 17

      • Elco Aug 26, 2015

        Agreed ;0

  • renan Aug 16, 2015

subtitles still show on the bottom of the video and not below the video (over the black bar) for me, changing the setting doesn’t work, the subtitle wont show outside of the video. Kodi 14.2 works fine here

    • Willem Aug 17, 2015

      Yep, same here.

    • Ned Scott Aug 23, 2015

Should be fixed in v15.2, IIRC.

    • luhan Aug 26, 2015

You have any solution for this?

  • britt Aug 17, 2015

” Fix broken native keyboard on iOS 5.1.1 devices” Do you mean Android 5.1.1? I believe iOS is on version 8+

    • Memphiz Aug 17, 2015

Nope – iOS 5.1.1 (which is the oldest ios version we support – ipad one users can’t install any newer version for example)

  • SpiritualPragmatist Aug 17, 2015

I’ve tried upgrading 15.1 using a usb but app refuses to be installed. Using an amlogic media box.

    • Nick Oct 01, 2015

I had to uninstall kodifrom play store then reinstall to update kodi to 15. I to have an amlogic. M8s to be exact

  • Stefan Aug 17, 2015

Good work and Thank you :)

  • syncopation Aug 17, 2015

Crash on startup on OS X 10.10.5: http://trac.kodi.tv/ticket/16196

  • Dranzerk Aug 17, 2015

Still no fix for python crash at windows startup? Been 4 years since it was reported. Its not a major, but very annoying since you reset computer have to restart kodi for it to work again.

Something about the startup process with kodi it does not like? It happens with 4 different systems i’ve used Kodi on the last 4 years (intel NUC i5 latest pc im using).

    • Kib Aug 18, 2015

Most likely an add-on doing that as stock systems do not exhibit this bug. With millions of users on Windows, I am sure we would have been notified. Where is this 4 year old bugreport?

  • Borislav Aug 17, 2015

Subtitles doesn’t work at all with the new version, Kodi 15.1 Isengard.7, on Windows 10 and Ubuntu 14.04 platform i.e. they are not displayed on the screen.

    • Kib Aug 18, 2015

They sure do for me on all systems I tested on.
Create a forum thread with description of the issue, your setup and a debug log and we’ll see what is going on.

  • bob Aug 17, 2015

    rewind still doesnt work.

    • Ned Scott Aug 23, 2015

There’s still a bug to workout for hardware video decoding for Windows when using rewind. A temp workaround is to disable hardware video decoding if your CPU can handle software decoding.

  • Victor Aug 17, 2015

Confirmed, could not get subtitles to work on a just upgraded 15.1 on android.

    • Victor Aug 18, 2015

My appearance settings were in portuguese, could not make the subtitles to show after upgrade. Switched to english and they work fine. Switched again to portuguese and they keep working fine. Go figure…

    • Bob Oct 25, 2015

I can’t rewind or search it crashes on my mbox 3

  • reysomo Aug 17, 2015

los subtitulos en español no funcionan, lo descargo y no aparece nada

    • Martijn Aug 17, 2015

      Habla no what e English?

      • masterxilef Aug 18, 2015

Translation: subtitles in spanish not working, I download them and they don´t show up

        or something like that…

so it appears that he’s refering to the subtitles problem other people are refering

      • Mr Bill Griffin Aug 18, 2015

I have TVMC which is Kodi which is XBMC aaaaand there is an update from 14.2 to 15.1 Isengard??? No,no I’m not confused in the least lol Ffs

What the heck? If I update to 15.1 is it still TVMC or ???

        • Nathan Betzen Aug 18, 2015

TVMC is a fork of Kodi. It is not Kodi. We don’t know what would happen to you if you updated. Perhaps you could ask the people who make TVMC?

        • Martijn Aug 18, 2015

TVMC is just a rip off full of malware

    • Eddy Aug 17, 2015

en windows funciona bien, en que plataforma estas?, Si quieres que te respondan escribe en ingles

      • Kib Aug 18, 2015

Sorry, English only on this site.

  • Pat Aug 17, 2015

Great job on this app guys. Finally had to donate a little something i use it so much.

  • Uri4u Aug 17, 2015

Android lollipop tablet: audio hiccup every 2 seconds.

  • Isaac Aug 17, 2015

Get kicked out of TV channels while watching

  • Mike Aug 17, 2015

    Thanks for the release!!

To bad that since 15.1 RC (and in this), I got the “PVR Manager is starting up” window and need to cancel it to continue… I have no PVR and disabled it in settings.

    • Kib Aug 18, 2015

Most likely an add-on causes this as a clean stock system doesn’t do that.

      • Mike Aug 20, 2015

Thx for the idea.. will give it a try

      • Steven Aug 27, 2015

I am experiencing the same issue since I updated. I have no addon even closely related to PVR. I even removed the pvr packages. I also tried to clean the PVR database and reset to defaults but no luck. I don’t even have a TV card.

        • Steven Aug 27, 2015

Btw the message is “no PVR clients are started”. That sounds like a bug, no PVR clients should be started

          • Kib Aug 27, 2015

It really sounds like an add-on or keypress is trying to call the add-on manager window.
This then shows you the error because you have no installed PVR.

Don’t blame this on the application when it doesn’t happen on a clean install (which it doesn’t). It most likely is caused by an add-on you installed.

Go to the forum, create a proper report with a debug log showing the issue, and we can help.

    • greewn Nov 21, 2015

I had the same problem, just fixed it:

Settings => Appearance => Skin (Already selected) => Startup window => SELECT Home window

If TV is selected it tries launching PVR

  • Maschke Aug 18, 2015

    Hi Guys,
after updating kodi airplay will not work :( ( any one else with this problem??

  • kikassridec2 Aug 18, 2015

problem still persist with rewind not working… otherwise seems a good release for me :)

    kodi 15.1 stable (non dx11)
    windows 10 pro x64
    latest nvidia driver

  • Elo Nielsen Aug 18, 2015

That is a very nice program, but I need a key instead of “c” so I can delete recorded tv programs with my remote.

    • mkortstiege Aug 19, 2015

You’ll have to re-map a remote button to the action “Delete”. Please see http://kodi.wiki/view/Keymap for more information.

  • Kike Aug 18, 2015

“Kodi.exe” process don´t stop after I close the program on my system (Win 7 64 bit). I need to kill it manually in Task Manager in order to reload Kodi. With 14.2 it didn’t happen. Anyone with the same problem?

    • Jules Aug 30, 2015

Hi, I am having the same issue under Win 10 64bit, lastest kodi release. I can’t even stop the process; it says no permission when I try to kill the process.

  • Malcolm Aug 18, 2015

Custom Splash.png still shows black bordering on Kodi 15.1 using OSX 10.10.5 this wasn’t the case on 15.0 with the same custom Splash.png image.

I would love to see my custom splash image in full screen on Kodi 15.1 rather than a picture frame if at all possible guys?

    • mkortstiege Aug 19, 2015

The splash was changed to 1920×1080. You’ll have to update your custom splash in order to make it display correctly again.

      • Malcolm Aug 19, 2015

Thanks for the reply, I will give that a go.

      • Malcolm Aug 19, 2015

It looks much better now, thanks again for your help!

  • Stephen Dolphin Aug 18, 2015

I have the Samsung Tablet 3 (SM-T210R) Android ver 4.1.2 Kernel ver 3.4.5-1304745-user, and when I attempted to upgrade to 15.1 it stated that this update isn’t compatible with this device.

I’m currently running KODI ver 14.2.

Will the new version have the ability to stream to ChromeCast?

  • trevorknight Aug 18, 2015

Hi guys, my kodi is not running smooth, pictures sticking.
My problem is that i can not download 15.1
But i love the KODI MEDIA BOX.

  • daniel Aug 19, 2015

i use kodi 15.1 but what i get is a new problem with playing long videos, just no picture but finished “working ” some sound and just blank

  • Sheldon John Aug 19, 2015

I have been a user of XBMC since Frodo and still had Frodo on XP 32bit OS until I upgraded to Windows 10 64bit OS. I think Frodo was the best on XP. I had no issues at all. Since the repository of Frodo was not working I decided to install Isengard on Win10. This morning I was surprised (and annoyed) to see Kodi struggle with simple task like Rewind and Forward.

I can’t tell you guys how much XBMC changed my PC usage. I switched from WMC and even got wireless touch keyboard just for XBMC. I am grateful to Kodi team. My only gripe is that you fix this forward /rewind error as soon as possible.

    Thank You.

  • Josh A Aug 19, 2015

Great work .. You guys are the real mvps..

  • ted pira Aug 19, 2015

Videos say they are 0 mins instead of correct times

    • Simon Aug 19, 2015

Please provide DETAILED information in the Forums.

  • jolle Aug 19, 2015

Upgraded this morning and had a quick test. It seemed that 15.1 could neither fast forward or rewind a movie. And it was not possible to resume-play a video.

    • Sheldon John Aug 19, 2015

I’ve been facing the same Issues in Isengard 15.0. It still hasn’t been fixed. Think I’ll go to Gotham which I had downloaded long back (but never installed on my previous XP OS) till this issue gets resolved in future releases. Frodo still rocks imo.

    • nedscott Aug 23, 2015

Please post to the forums about this. I can’t reproduce this on any of the hardware/platforms I test for.

    • shane Aug 24, 2015

I have the same issue with Isengard 15.1. I could not fast forward or skip to any part in the middle of a video stream. When I switched back to version 15.0, I had no problem forwarding or skipping into the video stream.

      • Martijn Aug 24, 2015

        Get the updated build

        • Shane Aug 25, 2015

Awesome, version 15.2 RC fixed the fast forwarding issue!

          • Sheldon John Aug 29, 2015

Fast Forwarding was fixed in 15.1 itself. I read your comment (mistakenly assuming that rewind had been fixed) and downloaded 15.2. Rewind still has black screen freeze issue. Hopefully should be fixed in v16 because this is the MOST IMPORTANT BUG bugging all XBMC/KODI fans out there!!!!

    • Fatatee Aug 28, 2015

I have the exact same issue.

  • Alexey Aug 19, 2015

Android 4.4.2, Tronsmart s89. After updating on 15.1 IPTV Simple Client ceased to function normally. For example, the television channel with a sound 5.1 instead of the image has the black screen. Constantly there is a message on buffering. I returned back to version 15.0. Version 15.0 perfectly works. If not to consider a problem with adjustment of a sound 5.1 If to try to reduce volume of sound means the Android, in loudspeakers there is a terrible crash! Sadly.

  • Ryan Aug 19, 2015

Fresh 15.1 installation. Works fine until I move my advancedsettings.xml file into the userdata folder. Then it crashes on startup.

If I remove the file it is fine. But obviously I need the file to access my centralised mysql DB.

    • Dick Aug 22, 2015

Same problem here. When I move advancedsettings.xml into my userdata folder, Kodi won’t start.

  • anthony Aug 19, 2015

Installed the 15.1, unfortunately still has sound issues on live feeds, and only on live feeds. Sound drops out constantly.

  • Alex B Aug 19, 2015

    Installed the 15.1. ARM s812, Android 4.4.2.
During playback when fast forwarding or skipping part of the video the picture disappears, just black screen displays. Then normal playback can’t be resumed until you reload the video

    • meram Aug 22, 2015

Same issue here. I running kodi 15.1 on Android os (mbox os 4.2 112k4)

  • Kim Aug 19, 2015

Has this problem been fixed yet? Couldn’t see anything in the change-logs. I had to revert to 14.2 because of it.

The OSD bug that has made Isengard unusable for me and a few others.
    Ticket here:

As always greatly appreciate this awesome software!

    • Jon leggott Aug 21, 2015

How do I revert back to 14? I’m really new to this kind of stuff and don’t have a clue where to start. Any help is appreciated

    • Ned Scott Aug 23, 2015

Did the “Let driver choose” setting not work?

  • jarrode Aug 19, 2015

Why did I update? Smh now when I stream a video it zooms to far in and when I fix the zoom it’s only showing in the bottom right corner that’s how far I have to zoom out just to get the whole picture to show on the screen. This problem is only on my android tv box running kit kat 4.4.2. Please help me

    • Trevor Aug 20, 2015

Same issue here. Everytime I select a show to watch it is zoomed in. I have to turn off the tv or unplug the hdmi in order for it to correct myself. Not to mention the sound doesn’t match with the video anymore 90% of the time with the new release, 15.1. Also using kit kat on the gbox. Both midnight and the new Q. I will probably revert to Gotham.

      • jarrode Aug 20, 2015

How did u fix the problem

      • Helios Aug 22, 2015

I’m not sure how G-Box works, but it’s an Android Box so if you go into your display settings you should be able to change this from 720-60hz to 1080 and it will resolve your issue without having to unplug and re-plug the HDMI

    • Joey Vento Aug 20, 2015

I am having the same problem. Very upsetting. I really worked hard on this setup.

    • Kevin Aug 22, 2015

I had the same problem. I had to set my android box to 1080 x 60 and it fixed the problem.

  • Steve Aug 19, 2015

The major problem I had with 15.0 was after a while I was unable to open application, so I rolled back to 14.2 until 15.1 came along.

I have installed 15.1 in Windows 10 and so far, I have no issues and still able to open the application. (Touch wood!)

I knew it would be solved, as ever!, and at least unlike Microsoft/Windows 10, Kodi admits there mistakes!

    Thanks for the update/fix.

  • Samm Aug 19, 2015

Only problems with 15.1 on android 4.4, tv-box.
Subtitles not working, rewind and forward makes freezes to video. Did you test this version?

    • Chucky Aug 20, 2015

@Samm, I am also getting many freezes/video completely screwing up when pausing, fast forwarding and or rewinding…..I had none of these issues with 15.0 only with 15.1 (on Nvidia Shield and PC)

    • Ned Scott Aug 23, 2015

We tested it extensively and tried to get as many people as possible from the community to help test it as well.

  • Stefan Aug 20, 2015

One problem I noticed is that if I would leave my Kodi without using it for more than a half hour or so or have a movie paused for that amount of time….Talking on the phone or something like that, When I get back the paused movie have turned into a black screen and for both alternatives no movie will run and after closing Kodi down the Windows 8.1 system is unstable and charms bar will not open and I have to restart the PC for it to get back on normal……..This is though only if I leave it or paus a movie for more than an half hour or up to an hour…….The problem is not there otherwise….Maybe it is something on my system only but I did not have that issue in past releases so am mentioning it as it may be something in this build…Just wanted it known…..Have a nice day :)

    • michael Sep 03, 2015

EXACT same issue both on 15.1 and 15.2, I rolled back to 14 and no issues at all.

      • Brian Oct 02, 2015

Can you roll back to 14 and keep all current data and setup as is or does a rollback require starting from scratch?

  • James Aug 20, 2015

Has anyone found a way to fix the video going to a black screen after fast-forward actiated? Sound resumes but no video just a black screen. Previous versions of Kodi did not have this issue.

  • jurrabi Aug 20, 2015

Not to sound ungrateful, but I said it before and say it again:

Something is wrong with the testing process when after several betas the final version always (it has happened the last 3 versions) goes public with bugs, so important that they force a .1 version (or even several) in the following weeks.

For me a final release has become something to avoid until a month or so, when the real final release comes… Really, I have less trouble with alphas just after a release that with the supposedly stable release.

Again, maybe this sounds ungrateful or whatever… but I’m just saying. We need better release processes…

Anyway, thanks for all the great work and keep it up.

    • Ned Scott Aug 23, 2015

Regardless of how stable v15.0 it was always the plan to do more bugfix releases than we’ve done in the past, and to do them more often. Wether or not we could have caught and fixed certain bugs before v15.0′s release might be up for debate, but the existence of v15.1 so soon doesn’t mean anything other than we are releasing more often.

Otherwise, we sit on known fixes for months while waiting for other fixes, for no apparent reason.

  • Florin Aug 20, 2015

Great job! updated my windows 8.1 and android smart tv player (rk3288) from 15.0 to 15.1 and everything work like a charm (mysql, nas and everything else).

  • Neil Johnson Aug 20, 2015

since installing Kodi 15.0 I can no longer watch a movie, the playback

  • Tom Aug 20, 2015

Version 15 has been the only version I have used where watching TV consists of lost and freezing all the time. Using the Home run HD app seems a little bit more reliable but not by much.

  • Macri Aug 21, 2015

Image is zoomed into top left corner on Android box…

    • Nick Oct 01, 2015

Same here on m8s others have chimed in on changing video output to 1080 from 720 and it fixes it. Think its an issue with 15.1 bout to try the fix myself. Also have rewind issue and not sure how to turn off box since I can’t find a hardware power or software power button

  • Stephen Dolphin Aug 21, 2015

Are you working to make 15.1 compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 like 14.2 was?
    Model #: SM-T210R
    Android Ver: 4.1.2
    Kernel Ver: 3.4.5-1304745-user

When I attempt to install the latest version it fails with an error message of “Not compatible with this device”

    • Martijn Aug 21, 2015

      No there won’t be

    • nedscott Aug 23, 2015

    Great work

  • Ofer Aug 22, 2015

I’m using minix 8x h plus – forward/rewind and changing location in the movie stopped working.
I get black or frozen image and only sound.
    Please fix.
    Great work.

    • ApfelKoRn Aug 23, 2015

Here same problem on my minix 8-h: forward/rewind and changing location in the movie stopped working. Screen shows frozen image of the video, but sounds keeps working.

  • Clive Aug 22, 2015

Using Kodi 15.1 I did not have this problem but using then new maintenance update the problem has appeared. I use Mediaelch to do all my movie/TV show info and now on the Kodi update some of new movies I add do not show the pictures I have added (in medeiElch) and are using its own of the internet. Hope that makes sense. As I said though in Kodi 15 & 51.1 this did not happen

Another problem that has appeared is, when I boot up Kodi sometimes (not all) but there is a black bar on the right side of the TV. If you reboot it then boots up problem with Kodi taking up the full screen. This is using the default skin (Confluence)

    • Clive Aug 22, 2015

The first problem I find the fault. I needed to clear the cache once that was done it worked fine. The second fault though still happens though. Great software, I moved over from a WDTV to Kodi.

  • ZeCompadre Aug 22, 2015

    Hi !

how to disable PVR Manager window ?

i’ve PVR disabled but that window keep popup when kodi starts !

  • Helios Aug 22, 2015

    RR & FF issues.
I have several Android boxes. My older M8 rewinds and fast forwards with no issues with the 15.1 update, did not with the 15.0. My newer CX-S806 has issues with both releases and will not FF or RR. It will remain stuck on seeking. Not sure why that is.

  • MrBasic69 Aug 22, 2015

Hi! I want to start saying congratulation for this piece of software, ones of my favorites.
I do not know if this bug have been submitted. Since Kodi 15.0 the movies (DVD only) that I ripped with MakeMKV and transcoded to mp4 container using Handbrake (normal and high profile), have sync problems (video ahead of audio). I waited for Kodi 15.1 and now Kodi crash continuosly. So I deleted the .kodi directory and start Kodi again, it loads fine, but as soon that I add a video source and set content, it crash in a loop. I have to disconnect the power of the Raspberry Pi and disable the kodi.service, so I can login to the system and enter the /home/kodi/.kodi/userdata/Database directory and delete the MyVideos93.db database and Kodi starts again. I am running Kodi in Arch Linux ARM operating system in a Raspberry Pi 2. This happens also when adding Music source.

    • Gerd Aug 25, 2015

This is exactly what happens with my fresh install of Kodi 15.1 on my Raspberry ARM Arch install. The Kodi crash log reveals nothing useful about hanging, tried to import media library partly without success. Both ways (online scraper or local information) brings no difference.

Please help updated to the new kodi and ever since TV shows and film play in slow motion and all out of sync on all my add ons tried getting the old version back on but won’t work any help would be much appreciated

  • Steve Aug 23, 2015

Kodi Auto Updates is what is causing the crashing. I have messing around with Kodi ever since yesterday when this first started happening. I turn off auto updates and manually install any updates and it works perfect with NO crashing. It’s something Kodi server check added which breaks Kodi. Even my android box is now working again since I sent auto updates to NEVER check. I can update the included addons manually but sucks that Kodi has done this.

    • Martijn Aug 23, 2015

Provide proper debuglog and crash logs on the forum. This is not a known problem

  • Alfredo Jimenez Aug 23, 2015

I have an TV BOX MX Android A9, everything good until Kodi 14.2, but with Kodi 15 and 15.1 the 1080 videos are with a big LAG. There’s no hardware decode in Kodi 15. Please help.

  • Steve Aug 23, 2015

@ Martign, The log file and even debug log file is useless. Nothing in it to show the issue. Even on android tv box there is nothing in the log pointing to the crash. I updated those addons manually without all the issues. I will do it this way from now on. I have auto updates set to never to avoid this issue. Funny it only started yesterday at 2 pm my time. I know the exact time it started.

    • Martijn Aug 24, 2015

So you are expert at reading logs?

  • elie Aug 24, 2015

the new kodi 15.1 does not support arbic languages and it crach if you use the pvr iptv client sample

    • Martijn Aug 24, 2015

      It does support it!

  • elie Aug 24, 2015

i have to go back to 14.2 version. it is beter and does not crachs with the pvr etc….

  • dave Aug 24, 2015

15.1 maintenance version is repeatedly freezing and requiring reboot on my minix x8h plus. is crashing whenever im installing or amending anything around 3=times every five minuttes

    • Martijn Aug 24, 2015

      check storage space.
Also this is not a support section! Use the forum.

  • Liviticus Aug 25, 2015

In 15.0 and 15.1 versions it won’t mark/flag your watched movies/programs. Worked on the older builds.

  • Max Aug 25, 2015

KODI 15.1 the only issue I’m having, is when trying to (<>) a movie or tv show. Once you hit play the screen is black, but you can hear the movie or the tv show playing in the background. Just to play it again you have to stop the movie or tv show and replay it again. I think this might be a Android OS issue, because on my Mac it works great. I’m sure it’s a simple fix, but I hope it gets fix soon.

  • Howard Aug 25, 2015

It’s great to come to the final of 15.1.
In 15.1, the avc1 hard decode is not working properly on android platform, which is working fine in 14.2.

  • Travis Aug 25, 2015

Since Kodi 15.0 (currently using 15.1) every so often when selecting a video to play it plays for a second and then the video gets shoved to the background and continues to play (i hear audio) while the video i get is either back at kodi main menu screen or black screen. If i get back to the main screen i can launch another instance of the same video and then “alt+f4″ and i get the original instance of the video. Black screen i have to “kill -9 PID” for kodi and relaunch. Any help?

  • Kodi user Aug 25, 2015

With version 14.2, whilst watching a stream and pressing the O key to bring up the information, if where it shows letter B (second line up from bottom, I assume B may mean Buffer?) went down to zero, the buffering would kick in, I would see it go back up well into the 90′s and most of the time it would stay there and not buffer again, depending on the server and the quality of the stream.
With version 15 and 15.1, when the B reaches 0, quite a few times it just sticks and does not buffer back up, making the stream impossible to watch. Using the playlist loader 1.0.6 seems to be the worse. Once this reaches 0 it never buffers back up, but with Kodi 14.2 this is not a problem, as it goes back up immediately.
Is this an issue with Kodi 15 or is it the playlist loader at fault with the new Kodi? It would be nice to use a .m3u list without having this issue all the time.
    Thank you :)

First time trying to load Kodi – on a PC.

At system/file manager/ add source the icon goes yellow but no pop up window appears.

Is this deliberate or am I doing something stupid?

  • froSTed Aug 26, 2015

I get fairly consistent crashes in Kodi on Windows 10 64 bit pro, whenever I pause and it goes to the slideshow screensaver, then try to get back to whatever I was watching. Doesn’t matter if it’s a plugin or content local on the drive, the screensaver freezes and I have to shut down Kodi with task manager. When I bring it back up, sometimes it doesn’t load my background image, and Kodi will not see the drives. Sometimes it just works, then freezes up later, again.

  • Chris Aug 28, 2015

The only version that’s stable on my MX android boxes is Helix 14.2 anything after this is pretty glitchy, but whenever I turn the box on it has upgraded to Isengard 15.2 and my whole system is twitchy after it does. For times it has done this.
How can I stop Kodi from automatically upgrading to Isengard 15.2?

  • MCW Aug 28, 2015

the problem happens “after” the install of “SilenceROM”
Maybe there’s nothing you can do and we have to wait for a new ROM version ?

  • Galaga14 Aug 29, 2015

Why is high speed playback still an issue in this day and age..?

Latest stable release of Kodi (Windows 7 PC dual core 4 gigs of RAM, HD 4350), dose not allow me to video search my HD content (freezes when FF or RW). I guess I’ll go back to the GOTHAM release (video searched worked but crazy fast when rewinding).

Too bad, I was hoping KODI had a better video search or high speed playback.

  • Denbigh Aug 31, 2015

Installed Kodi 15.1 on my android box as an update and when it is first opened it works fine, but once I get back to the smart tv box home page, when I go back to xbmc it reverts back to Gotham 13.2. Then I have to reinstall it. Any idea why this keeps happening?

  • Mics Sep 01, 2015

First of all great work as allways to the team Kodi, however i have recently experienced a problem when streaming movies from NAS devices. This suddenly started after upgrading to 15.1. Whenever i play a movie or at tv episode my buffer dies slowly and then the movie / tv episode comes to a stop and then the buffer needs to get back to 99% before the movie can continue. This actually makes watching movies and tv episodes impossible. Changed the cable and restarted the switch etc. nothing made a change. Hope somone can help.

  • Erroneous Sep 03, 2015

Has anyone noticed a slow down with videos sourced from the internet? Seeking takes longer than in 14 and every now and then it gets stuck at buffering 100% for several minutes. I think this started with 15.0 because when the skipforward and skipback settings changed to incrementally greater skips based on number of presses in a given time frame the slower seek was making the feature useless. It’s kind of had to know how far you have to skip if it takes 3-5 seconds to actually do it. BTW, maybe that setting should be x number of keypresses from the time the video starts playing again.

Running on Arch Linux x64 on an intel nuc i7. I can try to install a previous build to see if/when it was introduced.

  • pulu Sep 21, 2015

I am having problems with all vesrsions of helix and the latest 15.1
My setup: Toshiba Laptop duo core N2820 64 bit 4gb ram win 10 fully updated, used exclusevly for Kodi- no other programs or apps installed, not even office.

With the helix, I used to have big problems to exit. Otherwise, ok (same on win8.1)
With 15.1, exit eased, but still there, and, after a few hours of use, audio is muted on all addons. Nothing to do with the mute button. ZSome zipped addons do load, but do not open, for no reason, not because of incompatability . ( same on win8.1)

Whose to blame ? My laptop, my server, malware ( to my knowledge, clean) ???

    • Jon Oct 06, 2015

I got the same mute problem as you do. It started 2 days after I upgraded to 15.1.
The mute “logo” shows on top of the screen at all time. Im using passtrough sound to my reciever, so I do have sound.
Maybe upgrading to 15.2 or .3 will fix it….

      • Jon Oct 06, 2015

        FIXED IT NOW!
When this problem occurred, I pressed volume up, down and mute buttons on my mediakeyboard, but nothing happend.
What solved the problem was to press the + button. Simple as that!
