By default Kodi starts with the Confluence skin which gives users almost everything they need to enjoy it as media center. Though one of the great powers of Kodi is that it can be adjusted in many ways. One of the most noticeable ones is changing the so called skin. Each version of Kodi (and XBMC in the past) had it’s own array of third-party skins to choose from made for that specific version. By changing this you get an entire new look and feel as well as several new perks that don’t come by default in Confluence. These skins are created by Kodi enthusiasts and they develop these skins during many months months. Yes it can really take many months before a skins is close to it’s end result. First they will have to design the concept and then work out the details and code it all up till it’s actually usable and can be shared with all of you. The ones that have been update to work with Kodi 15.0 are listed bellow in an alphabetical order and not by popularity or number of downloads. Remember that they cost a lot of time to create and each has their own advantages and look and feel. As such treat them all with respect and be grateful at these developers for sharing them.

We’ve include each with a link to our Kodi add-ons website which lists all add-ons available in our official repository. As well as the dedicated forum sections, wiki page and a YouTube video showcase that should give you a general impression of how they look when using them. Of course this is only the tip of the iceberg as most if not all are highly configurable to adjust it to your specific liking (within limits of course). Should you find any issue with the skin you could always provide some feedback to the developer so he might be able to fix it and include in next update.

IMPORTANT!

Not all skins support control using a mouse or touch screens. This is intentional as the skin developers have decided to only allow control using a remote or controller. Additionally not all support PVR. Please respect these decision of the developers as they have their reasons to do so.

 - (Aeon Nox, Artic:Zephyr, Back Row, Black Glass Nova, Cirrus Extended, Mimic, Nebul;a, Neon, Titan, Transparency!, Xperience1080)

PVR showcase

At the moment of making the short showcase videos I hadn’t set up my PVR/LiveTV hence they were missing. Now that I setup my HDHomerun tuner together with a TVHeadend server that provides the EPG data and channels, I made a dedicated PVR section showcase.  All you will see in this showcase is the PVR part of these skins. All skins that were mentioned in current and previous showcase blog do support the PVR functionality to some extend. Some might still have some minor glitches or bugs so feel free to notify the skin author about them so he could possible fix it for his next update.

Conclusion

So far these are the skins that are listed as Kodi 15.0 compatible in our repository. This doesn’t mean that the other Skins currently listed don’t work at all. However some might lack a feature that has been added or changed in 15.0 In due time we’re sure most other skins will be updated as well to be fully compatible. Some skins have already a working version available for testing which can be found in the skin forum section. This however might require some technical knowledge to get these installed.

Leave a comment on what your favourite skins is at the moment.

That’s it for now. ENJOY!

I tried every skin, and I keep going back to amber. I wish stock had more shortcuts for video addons.

    • T800 Aug 23, 2015

The only reason I change the skin on many of my boxes is so I can add a selection on the main screen for kids shows.

      • Dan Aug 23, 2015

I’m always stuck with he stock skin because I like having the 5 add-on shortcuts across the bottom. What skin are you using for the kids content I would like to check it out.

      • Jumperjeff Aug 24, 2015

I do the same thing. I like having the kids movies separated so that they can look through a folder that has only stuff that I’ve already approved.

I think I use AEON NOX on my primary Kodi player.

        • Srj1209 Sep 14, 2015

I too use Aeon Nox. Basically I have movies in 2 international Languages in addition to English. Within English, I separate the movies as Animation, Regular movies and Documentaries. Within Music, I have Music and Music Videos. I see only Aeon Nox supporting these many items from the Main Manu.

If there are other skins that support customization of Main Menu and aboiut 9-10 classes on the main menu, I sure would like to know., especially if the can also support iPad.

      • Roningoku Aug 24, 2015

What skin do you use for kids shows?

    • SkyFly Sep 16, 2015

      yes I do !

  • Meee Aug 23, 2015

I keep trying new skins, and new versions of existing skins.. but I keep coming back to Transparency! skin. Clean, small fonts, nice use of screen space.

    • Jumperjeff Aug 24, 2015

Yup. On my PC, I prefer Transparency too. And I’ve tried almost all of them.

  • LLoyd Aug 23, 2015

Thanks for your support. Where can I get step-by-step instructions for setting up HDHomerun Prime tuner with Android set-top-box that provides PVR functionality and EPG data and channels?

    Thanks again,
    LLoyd

Anywhere but on a blog about skins I reacon

  • HBKsweden Aug 24, 2015

I tried every skin, and I keep going back to Confluence. The original is just the best.

  • oslokodi Aug 24, 2015

    Ace is my 1st choice

  • corb06 Aug 24, 2015

I have tried just about every skin also. Amber was my favorite for a while but kept going back to Confluence.
But now MimiC is simply my favorite. And I don’t think I ever will go back to Confluence again.
Running Mimic skin on both laptop, PC and Raspberry Pi2.
I really recommend it, its very customizable and clean.

  • Vitaly Gurevich Aug 25, 2015

I use amber… its too easy to use and very flexible. And does not download too much crap.

  • Stefan Aug 25, 2015

Will keep using Rapier for as long it will stay compitable with new versions as to me it is the no.1 skin :) ,I would use the main skin as second choice :)

    • Ben26 Aug 25, 2015

Same. I love rapier. The only skin I found with a great wall view, without the useless gaps between the covers and is so easy to use

  • Ismael tatengo Aug 27, 2015

    I want to

  • AliYusuph Aug 27, 2015

    Nice!

  • Dave Roberts Aug 28, 2015

CCM for Helix has superb custom options. This skin would in my opinion be the best default skin as it could be offered as a complete Confluence replacement for newbies and experts alike. Unfortunately there no current developer for this project.

  • Whizz Aug 28, 2015

Why don’t you guys embed some screenshot galleries as well? It’s a nice list of skins, but pretty pointless without visuals IMO.

    • Martijn Aug 28, 2015

      and that’s why there’s a video link as well…..

  • Manoj Aug 28, 2015

I use Aeon MQ 6 now and it is amazing. Before coming Aeon MQ 6, I was using Artic Zephyr and it is an excellent one. The new skin Box is also promising by its sheer uniqueness. I tried almost all skins. I liked Amber also.

  • Temujin Aug 29, 2015

No love for Aeon Madnox? Love it, tried most other skins always came back to a flavor of Aeon, now with Madnox, it’s solid.

  • fERK Aug 31, 2015

I really like the slim player interface from Aeon Nox. It’s the only skin that actually doesn’t have a player that blocks the subtitles. I wish other skins that clain to be minimalistic had slimmer overlays for the player controls.

The player is the only part of Aeon Nox that’s minimalistic, though… but it’s fine as long as you take the time to customize it, it can become pretty similar to the default Confluence.

With Metropolis I can have a separate menu item on the home screen for Kids Movies and Kids TV. Perfect!

  • SikeMo Sep 06, 2015

Artic: Zephyr FTW! Modern and sexy. Just wish the colors and transparency were customizable.

  • Carter Sep 10, 2015

i wish there was a theme to replicate windows media center due to windows 10 not having it… plz make one.

  • Tim Sep 14, 2015

  • Selwyn S. Baptiste Sep 21, 2015

@Martijn can you please explain to me how I can get Dutch channels playing on Kodi here in the USA? My wife is Dutch and many of the channels have regional blocks on Kodi.

I tryed every skin as I said before only one works are the Default ,

And the I-StreamFixit doesn’t fix when it Do I wanna use the Currant Skin Applied I Click On “YES”

and go Back to the “C” one doesn’t change it I already Refreshed KODI 4x’s now and I’m not doing it again .

cause I Loose everything I added the BACKUP stores them But it doesn’t tell me where it stores it so it’s kinda hard to find eerything you worked so hard putting together it should automaticly add the current skin or what every Skin and program you so you Don’t loose you’re setting’s isn’t that what a Back up’ supposto do ?

the More I try adding or taking one feature away some alway’s go wrong no matter what I do . I take all the Updates after I install a zip then Reposirory so this everything is set up now like i said some just removes everything after I install a new program or video addon .

  • SHIELD Nov 19, 2015

Thease are real Issues the KODI Team’s Need to Focus ON to get it right Make a Stable Program that Hold’s the setting’s Not like Microsoft everytime we do ome time of Uograde or Update we loose something or everything .

now you guy’s at Kodi work so hard just put a little more effort in getting the software to hold before you release the betas when these probelms crop uP you go back and see the “CODINGS” “”STRINGS”" to see what your left out I’m sure if you run the test software Incoder you will see I’m right . And Broken Links should Not be Installed even if they stay they are working .
