Kodi-Wallpaper-31C-1080p_samfisher

Kodi 17 features a huge amount of work in areas like video playback, live TV and PVR/DVR, the music library, skinning and more. It features a new default skin, as well as a new default touchscreen skin, named Estuary and Estouchy, respectively. With all this work done over the months some bugs might slip through and were hoping to quickly squash the coming beta releases. The changes for this fourth beta are the result of the continuous effort from the developers, either from inside the team or outside to get v17 into final release shape. and any outside. We sure would like to thank every one involved with either development, testing or simply helping out others with question. Below is a condensed list of fixes and changes done in this beta 4 release.

Fixes done in this Beta 4:

• Fix certain types of 16bit encoded passthrough streams on OSX
• Fix activate/deactivate on read only timers
• Fix reading interlaced modes from defaultsettings when set to none
• Fix compilation albums, last played rules and fix missing sort order rules in smartplaylists
• Fix relative seeks on video playback
• Fix info dialog for recordings on home screen
• Don’t load inputstreams on startup if they are disabled
• Fix subsequent seeks with video playback
• Explicitly check for DTS capability for making settings visible
• Add ARMv8A 64bit builds for Android
• Add GetLastModifiedDate to the webserver
• Fix playback of DVD ISO files
• Fix focus of list items in media windows (like plugins)
• Change spinners options in smartplaylist editors to a select menu
• Add workaround for AMD/ATI cards regarding interlaced content
• Fix gapless playback for music
• Fix controller on NVIDIA Shield TV not working after it when to sleep
• Fix video playback when skipping beyond end of file on mp4 videos
• Improve crashlog reporting for UWP app in Windows Store
• Export max ratings to NFO files by default
• Fix hardware decoding on some mpeg2 files and DVDs for AMD/ATI cards as their drivers aren’t that good
• Fix aspect ratio calculation for 3D modes
• Fix video playback in image slideshows
• Fix channel group change in PVR
• Fix several memory leaks

A full list can be found here

Known problems

• Upgrading the skin you are currently using fails on Windows.
• PVR and other binary addons fail load on Windows.
• Possible video freezes on Raspberry Pi and Android.

We are trying to find the cause solve these problems. Of course there are some more however these are the most noticeable ones.

What’s new?

This round we didn’t really add new features as the focus was to further improve our code and solving possible bugs. We do have some more improvements lined up for next beta so stay tuned…….

Windows Store

KODI_BLOG_WIN_300x300_CIn case you missed the big news some time ago, Kodi got added to the Windows Store as a Desktop Bridge UWP app. It is still the same Kodi version you are used to use, without any limitations. Although it is still possible (and always will be) to download and install Kodi from our website, it is now also possible for Windows 10 users to download and install Kodi from the Windows Store. This brings a few benefits, such as automatic updating. The Windows Store application uses the same userdata as the version from our website so you can switch between the two versions without issues. NOTE: This also means that if you are currently running Kodi v16 and want to try out the Windows Store version, your Kodi databases and add-ons will be upgraded to the v17 versions. You might want to make a backup of the userdata before! You can read the full announcement here: Kodi goes Windows Store

NOTE: Since it takes a bit of time to publish in Windows Store you might need to wait a bit till the update is available.

All in all this Beta 4 might not seem very excited but that’s how it’s supposed to be. We’re simply focusing more on stability and working out the details than keep adding bells and whistles.

Conclusion

As previously noted, this is only a small summary of all the improvements in Kodi 17. For more, see the Alpha 2 and Alpha 3 posts. Should you want to download and install this build please visit our download page. You can install these build just on top of your current Kodi installation.

•  Official Kodi 17.0 development downloads (near the bottom of the page)
•  LibreELEC Raspberry Pi / x86  versions can be found here

Please report any problems on our forum http://forum.kodi.tv and not on the release announcement. Don’t forget we also have some official tablet/phone remote controls for both Android and iOS. You can find the links to them on the download page.

Donations or getting involved

Getting involved is quite easy. Simply take the plunge and start using these 17.0 Krypton builds. If you use these builds, we encourage you to report problems with these builds on our forum first and after that, if asked, submit bugs on Trac (following this guide: How to submit a bug report). Do note that we need detailed information so we can investigate the issue. We also appreciate providing support in our Forums where you can. You can of course also follow or help promote Kodi on all available social networks. Read more on the get involved page. We are always happy to receive a donation by which you show your support and appreciation, and t-shirts and Raspberry Pi cases may still be found on the sidebar for purchase. All donations and other income goes towards the XBMC foundation and are typically used for travel to attend conferences, any necessary paperwork and legal fees, purchasing necessary hardware and licenses for developers and hopefully the yearly XBMC Foundation Developers Conference.

Any plan to release X64 version Kodi for Windows?

    • samyrenards Oct 25, 2016

      I don’t know why it’s still problematic to build a win64 release in 2016.
That’s totally annoying because it forces us to use mpv or directshow player as external player.

    • bob Oct 25, 2016

Kodi 32 bits works flawlessly on a Windows x64 version. Or do you have problems related to the x64 part?

      • Suchi Oct 25, 2016

FFmpeg x86 is terribly slow compared to x64.
The HEVC software decoder is easily 7x faster in x64 platform.

        • Martijn Oct 25, 2016

          Show scientific proof

          • Suchi Oct 27, 2016

I tried multiple x86 windows builds (stable/beta/nightly) of kodi and the x64 build of mpv with bunch of hevc video files and software decoding. Result mpv uses 9% of my CPU where xbmc uses 97% and more. Similar result with lavfilters x64 and mpc-hc.

        • Laam Oct 28, 2016

          It’s a known issue dude.
It’s because the dev team don’t use the HEVC intrinsics patch for ffmpeg.

          • std_ren Nov 13, 2016

I need to switch to VLC for HEVC / X265 files. Will this get resolved sometime soon in version 17. I’m not a techie – using Windows10.

    • nooryani84 Oct 25, 2016

This is terrible! The 32-bit version doesn’t play the movies correctly :(

  • Stephen Oct 25, 2016

Whilst I appreciate the work you guys do on this fantastic setup, this bug need to be fixed as soon as possible: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=289926

  • Anthony Malloy Oct 25, 2016

Tried it but NextPVR fails, and that’s a deal breaker. Will wait for next version.

    • Bill Oct 25, 2016

      Confirmed.
Logs showing: ERROR: ADDON: Dll NextPVR PVR Client – Client returned bad status (6) from Create and is not usable

      • Martijn Oct 25, 2016

We don’t maintain that PVR client so ask on the forum.

        • Jeremy Oct 26, 2016

All the PVR clients fail, even the demo one – same error. They were working with Beta 3

          • Peer Oct 26, 2016

DVBLogic / DVBLink PVR client works on beta 4. Initial activation reports an error though until the IP is entered in the configuration.

          • posto9 Oct 26, 2016

indeed all PVRs are not working while they were at beta3

      • Anthrax Oct 26, 2016

Dito! Rolled back to Beta 3

  • lolooolo Oct 25, 2016

Keep up the good work (esp for android)

  • ztarbugz Oct 25, 2016

You are always doing a great job guys. Keep up this good work

  • Peng Oct 25, 2016

Works flawlessly since beta 2. Thanks for that.

  • James Carver Oct 25, 2016

Needs 4k support, Android box does native 4k, (also nvidia shield and amazon fire tv), but kodi only does 1080p and android is forced to upscale, when playing 4k videos kodi down scales to 1080p then the os has to upscale it to 2160p, doesn’t make much sense and having to resort to an outside player sucks.

    • Martijn Oct 25, 2016

That’s totally false so don’t spread lies. The SHIELD does playback 4k videos

      • Louike Oct 27, 2016

He is very much right! something is badly wrong with the Kodi Android build.

  • Charlie Oct 25, 2016

in kodi 17 beta3 dvbviewer pvr addon the timeshift doesnt work properly…the playback stopped every few minutes…is this solved? in Kodi 16 it works so im back to that

  • Thomas Oct 25, 2016

    Thank´s for the update.
The PVR does not work. failed to create add-on DVBLink PVR Client, status = 6
    New installed.

    • Peer Oct 26, 2016

Strange. DVBLink PVR Client is working on my Shield Android TV after update from beta 3 to beta 4.

  • Eusebiu Oct 25, 2016

    Hey, guys!
I’m so glad to see you’re making progress. Hopefully, in the next version you will be able to solve this issue as well: http://trac.kodi.tv/ticket/17005
In short, streaming from an HTTP(S) Server with standard password protection no longer works from the Movies / TV Shows menus. ( Luckily it still works from the Files menu )

  • Stefan Oct 25, 2016

Same for me PVR does not work.
Error: failed to create add-on DVBLink PVR Client, status = 6
    I installed Beta 3 again.

  • Dale Hennessey Oct 25, 2016

I have been running Beta 3 for a while now and notice right off the FilmOn.TV plugin doesn’t get past showing selection menus. When I’m expecting a channel to start streaming I get the spinner, then it just goes back to the menu. I’ve tried removing and reinstalling FilmOn.TV in case it was an issue in the way the plugin was ported over form a non-beta installation but that hasn’t help. Do you guys know of this issue? Can I provide any more detailed information to help solve the problem? Has it possible been addressed by the Beta 4 build?

    Cheers!

  • Mossopinc Oct 25, 2016

all seems good just wish playing 3d movies in 2d would work lol ill keep waiting

    • Scott Oct 27, 2016

you have to go into the Player settings -> video and disable “Allow hardware acceleartion – mediacodec (surface)”

Unfortunately doing that breaks playback of any 60fps video content you have. But you can then playback your 3d videos in 2d….

I had this setting disabled in v16 without issue. in 17 this workaround has some limitations.

  • asaintfort Oct 25, 2016

Nice! I wish I can watch my Sling TV on there as I do with my HDhomerun. Is that possible?

  • Jose Goncalves Oct 25, 2016

PVR-IPTV still not enabled on Android version?

  • NigelCee Oct 25, 2016

Great job. As a tester, I have encountered little or no issues.

  • PhilS Oct 25, 2016

If you are running Kaspersky Security 2017 then pause protection when installing this as it starts to act as if Kodi is rampant with malware and goes into hyperdrive deleting stuff.

  • Kazuya_UK Oct 25, 2016

As soon as I read “fix aspect ratio calculation on 3D modes” I was very happy indeed! Bane of my existence for a while!!!

Keep up the amazing work guys!!! :D

  • asaintfort Oct 25, 2016

As of 10/25/16 it’s not on the Windows Store

    • JB Oct 25, 2016

It is there now. I just updated to Beta 4.

  • Anthony Oct 25, 2016

“We do have some more improvements lined up for next beta so stay tuned…….”

which sounds like it may lead to another:

“…round we didn’t really add new features as the focus was to further improve our code and solving possible bugs.”

Sounds like we may be a ways away from a stable release. And sort of sounds like a bit of a shift in the RERO development plan, or am I misreading things? In any case, I’m still a big fan and appreciate the work!

    • Anthony Oct 26, 2016

So, is RERO still the plan for Kodi?

  • bibi Oct 25, 2016

Nothing else to say :works like a charm in libreelec x86 and raspberry 2.
Just a little issue in picture mode wiith folder containning a lot of picture, which makes kodi crash, but im too lazy to report, and i think i saw a pr related.
    Great work as usual.

  • jb007mi6 Oct 25, 2016

I have noticed a issue present on the last 2 beta builds, when I load Kodi I don’t use the mouse to navigate I use the arrow keys. Now when it loads if you don’t move the mouse you cannot navigate with the arrow keys until you have moved the mouse. It seems as though you must use the mouse to activate the ability to navigate, this is really annoying and wasn’t an issue on v16 or previous. Other than this little problem I have no other issues so far but please can you make it so I don’t have to use a mouse to navigate, this is on my media PC running windows 10 x64 don’t know if it is an issue on other OS’s

NextPVR and HDHomerun PVR broken rolling back to Beta 3 to fix

    • Matt Oct 26, 2016

      HDHomerun broken in 14 & 15… worked in 13.

  • Trevor Oestreich Oct 25, 2016

I like how they blame AMD drivers…

    • Martijn Oct 26, 2016

There’s nothing to argue against facts. AMD drivers have been horrible for years already

  • Dann Oct 25, 2016

Keep getting parsing error when installing on ZTE phone any good links for Kodi Krypton for ZTE

    • kalashenicof Nov 06, 2016

      I had the same bug.
You have to manually add a temp folder in your kodi data.

In windows go to %appdata%\Kodi and create a empy folder named “temp”.

  • 27hectormanuel Oct 26, 2016

Hi i’m getting tired of the windows 10 kodi not supporting or not enabled the xbox 360 controller setup, I have looked everywhere but nothing.

  • anreddy Oct 26, 2016

Kodi V16 version works perfectly with Windows 10 64-bit without any flaw. Thanks for Jodi team.

  • snow Oct 26, 2016

Thanks Kodi Team for your excelent work. The new skin looks great!
Beta 4 works fine for video(4k hvec) playback with my nvidia shield.
If you add different citys to the weather menu it was in the weather menu not possible to change citys (could also be a addon issue?). I used the addon OpenWeatherMap.

  • Charlie Oct 26, 2016

PVR Addon DVBViewer doesnt start on beta4.

  • Eusebiu Oct 26, 2016

It looks like skipping to a certain time using the numeric keys no longer works. :(

    • bob Oct 28, 2016

This has been added back, will be in the next beta

  • maher Oct 26, 2016

pvr doesnt start on beta 4 back to beta 3 :(

Why no steps are taken to agregate in kodi streaming media providers such as hbo go, netflix – this woul make kodi a complete media center

  • sammarbella Oct 26, 2016

Beta 3 broke timeshift in DVBViewer PVR addon, now in Beta 4 the PVR addon doesn’t work at all.

Hopefully Alphas and Betas are for that: testing.

  • Neil Oct 26, 2016

I am amazed at all the negativity for what is after all a wonderful piece of software developed by enthusiasts for free – words like rubbish, crap etc etc just show your ingratitude and stupidity. Keep up the good work, there are many of us out here who appreciate your efforts.

    • Richard Ayotte Oct 27, 2016

Agreed. These self entitled assholes are too dumb to code and crap all over other people’s work. Unreal.

Hey developers, keep up the awesome work. I love what you’ve done with the new skin and PVR interface and can’t wait for the final release.

    • Zentri Oct 28, 2016

Hmmm… you are the first to use either of those words in this entire thread.. presumptive much?

  • mateus Oct 26, 2016

    Thanks!

  • Barry Oct 26, 2016

I also had problems with the Beta 4 with NextPVR. Worked great with beta 3, Posted it in the NextPVR forum and they responded it was an Kodi issue with all PVR clients. Great product!

  • Chris Oct 26, 2016

I’ve been a Kodi Windows version user for a few years now and love it. I recently bought an Nvidia Shield tv and got 16.1 up and running just like I have it on my computer. The one problem is that the shield version doesn’t play Atmos audio on one of my movies. Hopefully this is being worked on for the release of 17. I tried looking and couldn’t find a clear answer but it looks like it probably is.

    • Jeremy Oct 27, 2016

Atmos and DTS-X are both supported in the 16 beta releases, like the one this thread is about. I have used both on my Shield TV and verified that they work.

      • Jeremy Oct 27, 2016

*typo* I meant “17″ beta releases in the post above. Wish this page let me edit my posts.

    • Jeremy Oct 27, 2016

Maybe the Atmos track for the particular movie isn’t the first audio track. I’ve run across that on more than one occasion. Try switching audio streams and see if that works.

      • Chris Oct 28, 2016

I haven’t tried the 17 beta on the shield yet. But if you say it works then cool. Can’t wait for the full release.

  • SlimPickins Oct 26, 2016

Is anyone else having issues with ‘pass thru’ audio actually passing signals onto the receiver? its only getting multi audio, not showing as DTS or DD.

  • Jason Oct 26, 2016

Beta 4 crashes when trying to enable Zeroconf, does it everytime

    • Jason Oct 26, 2016

crashes on one pc on the other it gives an error message and won’t enable. It asks if i have bonjour service enabled \ installed but i have no idea how to do that, i can’t find bonjour in any of the repo’s etc included and i don’t know where to get it from.

Otherwise everything else is working well, running beast krypton almost all links are working perfectly and working well without crashing but i need the remote to work!

      • Jason Oct 26, 2016

Sorry just realised how thick i was being, bonjour is needed on the pc not kodi, installed itunes and bingo!

  • MIKE Oct 26, 2016

Im trying to download beta 4 on my minix neo u1 but the 64bit doesnt install only the 32bit. What am I doing wrong.
    Can you help please?

  • ksya Oct 26, 2016

Something weird going on on my Sony Bravia 2015 Android TV. Everything works fine before starting a video, but after, it fucks up the whole video playing on the TV. The video in kodi shows black screen, but with sound. When stopping the video none can be played anymore, nothing happens. Same for all videos on the whole Android ecosystem.

    Someone experiences the same?

  • FrostyButters Oct 27, 2016

Audio passthrough still doesn’t seem to be working on Amazon Fire TV

  • atreyu Oct 27, 2016

Hm. Blogposts still being used as support threads.
But anyway: It’s a real treat to see development progress still.
Great work on this release and thanks for bettering an already great product!

  • Ed Cutler Oct 28, 2016

    Superb well done!

    Keep up the good work!!

  • JamesB Oct 28, 2016

For those complaining about the PVR issue:

Install KodiSetup-20161021-e143903-cmake_move_to_root.exe from the nightly builds. That comes up as Beta 4 on the system information and the PVR seems to work fine.

Just wanted to add my thanks to the devs as well. I`ve used Kodi for years and actually enjoy using the development builds to see what they come up with. You guys do a great job and I for one appreciate that the development builds aren`t going to be the stable and bug free end product people seem to be expecting. Just adds to the fun to me!

Massive thank you guys … keep it up!!

  • RUDDERS Oct 28, 2016

Every song from the Music library crashes KODI Beta 4.
Back to Beta 3 for me too :-(

  • Marco Oct 28, 2016

    Thanks for the update.

The joystick addon, which has been working in beta 3, is now broken:

and _is_ working in the “downloadable beta 5″ just fine again :)

  • Stephan Oct 28, 2016

i’m using Kodi from Win10 Store… so no way to get back to beta 3… reinstalled and tried everything to see whats wrong with pvr clients… indeed i maybe found another bug related to the windows store version… debug log shows that a logfile should be in the appdata/roaming/kodi folder… but there is no kodi folder and no kodi logfile…

i would really look forward to a beta5 where the pvr clients works again, as kodi with pvr is my main TV Box :)

  • Stephan Oct 28, 2016

Ok Beta5 is now pushed via Windows Store update, PVR Clients will now load again… but still having issues… no stream is starting when using simple iptv…

using 16.1 version (normal windows installer) simple iptv client still work and tv streams starts normally…

anyone else having this issues with simple iptv in beta5?

  • Stephan Oct 28, 2016

Updated “normal windows installer” Version to 17b5… iptv pvr is still working in this version… so it looks like only the windows store version have some issues…

i’ve also tested with dvbviewer pvr client… also just starts loading a channel but no video playback starts…

  • Simakuutio Oct 28, 2016

Linux version connected via HDMI to my TV, highest possible resolution (1920x1080p) keeps flicking and blacking out frequently making even menubrowsing impossible. Haven’t tried with earlier betas but this latest which came from unstable, was completely broken in that sense. Lower resolution worked somewhat well.
Went back to 16.1 which became in some parts unfunctional when I went back. Luckily all videos plays etc so I can keep using it.
Hopefully this video issue is somehow resolved in future versions. Right now, can’t even think about using 17.

(running most recent stable kodibuntu with minimal changes in environment, of course patching frequently but it’s still Ubuntu 14.04).

  • Laam Oct 28, 2016

Please patch ffmpeg with HEVC intrinsics for the windows build.

  • EastBrow Oct 29, 2016

Are the subtitles in 3D being fixed? It has been almost a year. Subtiltes in 3D are being shown for one eye only. Subtitles rendering is broken since Kodi 16!

  • Wouter Oct 29, 2016

Beta 5 auto-installed on Shield TV.

Beta 4 fixed some codec issues, and played fine, and in idle was using little CPU. Beta 5 in idle seems to be using a lot more CPU again (like beta 3).

So for me beta 4 was the better out of the last few betas.

  • zoner Oct 29, 2016

very much appreciated, especially when you have to deal with so many whingers….keep it up guys!

  • Chris K Nov 05, 2016

Can you please add auto update Kodi, so it will auto update to the new Kodi or allow users to update right from Kodi automatically
