Kodi v17 “Krypton” Beta 5

Posted By: Martijn Kaijser on Oct 29, 2016 in Pre-Release

Kodi 17 features a huge amount of work in areas like video playback, live TV and PVR/DVR, the music library, skinning and more. It features a new default skin, as well as a new default touchscreen skin, named Estuary and Estouchy, respectively. With all this work done over the months some bugs might slip through and were hoping to quickly squash the coming beta releases. The changes for this fifth beta are the result of the continuous effort from the developers, either from inside the team or outside to get v17 into final release shape. and any outside. We sure would like to thank every one involved with either development, testing or simply helping out others with question. Below is a condensed list of fixes and changes done in this beta 5 release.

Fixes done in this Beta 5:

• Fix playback of HLS streams
• Fix skin settings not loading when “reload skin” was triggered
• Fix segfault on EOF for video caused by postprocessing
• Fix possible crash on Android when other Android apps had missing icons
• Change splash screen text once per second to show it’s busy doing database and add-on upgrades instead of just static text.
• Fix missing binary add-ons like PVR and controller handling on Windows
• Add back seek to time using numeric input on video files

• Microsoft has rolled out a fix for users of the Kodi UWP version in combination with AMD videocard that had BSOD. For more information see: Blue screen with error code 0×139

Known problems

• Upgrading the skin you are currently using fails on Windows.
• Upgrading any add-on currently fails on Windows.
• Possible video freezes on Raspberry Pi and Android.

We are trying to find the cause solve these problems. Of course there are some more however these are the most noticeable ones. Remember this is still Beta software so please be patient.

For completeness here are the fixes done in previous beta

Fixes done in Beta 4:

• Fix certain types of 16bit encoded passthrough streams on OSX
• Fix activate/deactivate on read only timers
• Fix reading interlaced modes from defaultsettings when set to none

• Fix relative seeks on video playback
• Fix info dialog for recordings on home screen
• Don’t load inputstreams on startup if they are disabled
• Fix subsequent seeks with video playback
• Explicitly check for DTS capability for making settings visible
• Add ARMv8A 64bit builds for Android
• Add GetLastModifiedDate to the webserver
• Fix playback of DVD ISO files
• Fix focus of list items in media windows (like plugins)
• Change spinners options in smartplaylist editors to a select menu
• Add workaround for AMD/ATI cards regarding interlaced content
• Fix gapless playback for music
• Fix controller on NVIDIA Shield TV not working after it when to sleep
• Fix video playback when skipping beyond end of file on mp4 videos
• Improve crashlog reporting for UWP app in Windows Store
• Export max ratings to NFO files by default
• Fix hardware decoding on some mpeg2 files and DVDs for AMD/ATI cards as their drivers aren’t that good
• Fix aspect ratio calculation for 3D modes

• Fix channel group change in PVR
• Fix several memory leaks

A full list can be found here

What’s new?

This round we didn’t really add new features as the focus was to further improve our code and solving possible bugs. We do have some more improvements lined up for next beta so stay tuned…….

Windows Store

KODI_BLOG_WIN_300x300_CIn case you missed the big news some time ago, Kodi got added to the Windows Store as a Desktop Bridge UWP app. It is still the same Kodi version you are used to use, without any limitations. Although it is still possible (and always will be) to download and install Kodi from our website, it is now also possible for Windows 10 users to download and install Kodi from the Windows Store. This brings a few benefits, such as automatic updating. The Windows Store application uses the same userdata as the version from our website so you can switch between the two versions without issues. NOTE: This also means that if you are currently running Kodi v16 and want to try out the Windows Store version, your Kodi databases and add-ons will be upgraded to the v17 versions. You might want to make a backup of the userdata before! You can read the full announcement here: Kodi goes Windows Store

NOTE: Since it takes a bit of time to publish in Windows Store you might need to wait a bit till the update is available.

All in all this Beta 5 might not seem very excited but that’s how it’s supposed to be. We’re simply focusing more on stability and working out the details than keep adding bells and whistles.

As previously noted, this is only a small summary of all the improvements in Kodi 17. For more, see the Alpha 2 and Alpha 3 posts. Should you want to download and install this build please visit our download page. You can install these build just on top of your current Kodi installation.

•  Official Kodi 17.0 development downloads (near the bottom of the page)
•  LibreELEC Raspberry Pi / x86  versions can be found here

Bug reports

Please report any problems on our forum http://forum.kodi.tv and not on the release announcement as it is not a reporting or help section. Don’t forget we also have some official tablet/phone remote controls for both Android and iOS. You can find the links to them on the download page.

Donations or getting involved

Getting involved is quite easy. Simply take the plunge and start using these 17.0 Krypton builds. If you use these builds, we encourage you to report problems with these builds on our forum first and after that, if asked, submit bugs on Trac (following this guide: How to submit a bug report). Do note that we need detailed information so we can investigate the issue. We also appreciate providing support in our Forums where you can. You can of course also follow or help promote Kodi on all available social networks. Read more on the get involved page. We are always happy to receive a donation by which you show your support and appreciation, and t-shirts and Raspberry Pi cases may still be found on the sidebar for purchase. All donations and other income goes towards the XBMC foundation and are typically used for travel to attend conferences, any necessary paperwork and legal fees, purchasing necessary hardware and licenses for developers and hopefully the yearly XBMC Foundation Developers Conference.

SATV Beta 5 seems to consume more CPU vs. Beta 4. Other than that, I have no issues with the beta, and a welcomed improvement over beta 3.

btw, auto-update keeps using the 32bit version, and for SATV it has not automatically gone up to the 64bit version. I assume we have to do a one-off manual install of the 64bit on top of the 32bit version, to have this fixed (auto-update) going forward?

    • Kris Nov 02, 2016

This may be a stupid question, I can only get stereo sound. Is there any way to get 5.1 surround sound ??
      Thanks from s nubie.
      I’m using a Leelbox Q3

      • Baccaraty Nov 03, 2016

Is not a stupid question, I have the same issue and never get 5.1 with my Yamaha system and I hope they can fix it.

      • Jeety Nov 28, 2016

Well go onot the settings-audio-channels and do whatever you want thereafter

    • SACD Nov 04, 2016

      SACD ISO File playable?

DSF file to file play popping sound?

  • Aliased Oct 29, 2016

Is support for directx9 only GPUs planned or am I fucked?
And it seems there is an useful patch for less CPU intensive HEVC playback that is used in mpv and lav, could it be included in kodi?

    • Laam Oct 30, 2016

To fix poor performance with the hevc software decoding on windows, the kodi win32 builder guy have to apply a patch to ffmpeg. However he doesn’t want to patch ffmpeg anymore for an obscure reason. Maybe it’s to force kodi users to play DVD or blu-ray instead of downloaded contents.

      • Solair Oct 30, 2016

+1 -> windows development should be cancelled

      • Logic Nov 08, 2016

Yes, because surely no one else on the planet could code a quick way around that…

  • Bill Oct 29, 2016

Thanks for the quick release with PVR addon’s working!

  • Brian Oct 29, 2016

HDHomerun PVR seems to have disappeared.

  • Alex Oct 29, 2016

    Thanks for this is release!
When back return info of buffer & cache in OSD Codec menu?

  • Stefan Oct 29, 2016

DVBLink PVR Addon is working again, but not usable. It’s to slow, I uninstalled Beta 5 and installed Beta 3 again (last usable version).

    • Solomalee Nov 01, 2016

Don’t give up I have DVB link add on working under Beta 4 on Raspberry PI2. I’m finding it very stable :-)

  • Stefan Oct 29, 2016

Reinstalled Beta 5 and it works. :)

  • Kodi user Oct 29, 2016

    AirPlay is broken

    • Klojum Oct 29, 2016

When isn’t it broken? Or perhaps you can contact someone at Apple Inc. and have them disclose the AirPlay source code.

  • jason Oct 29, 2016

Hi. just a small issue but would be great if it could be resolved.
i use a ps3 dualshock controller for my android box and Kodi always works great. i find it easier to use than a remote.
16.1 works great but version 17 does not because buttons are all different and some not doing anything
tried confluence skin and same result
if this can be changed so version 17 works same as 16.1 that would be great. if not its okay.
    thank you

  • Johnathan Oct 29, 2016

Is there a release date set for Kodi 17.0 yet?

Now that your a UWP app you are going to have to deal with so much censored content. Welcome to Xbox Live.

    • Kib Nov 01, 2016

Kodi is not an UWP app, but a normal app wrapped in a UWP-wrapper.
This enables the app to be distributed through the Windows store, not to run on Xbox.

      • cuatex Nov 10, 2016

do you have plans to doit as a UWP and released to Xbox

        • Kib Nov 24, 2016

No. It would require rewriting a whole lot of code. We welcome people who manage to do it though !

  • Johan Oct 29, 2016

This is wierd. Everything worked fine before beta5 but now when i try updating or installing addons or skins i keep getting failed to install/update on everything. Anyone else have this problem?

    • reading_capability Oct 30, 2016

Read the blog post before commenting:

      • Ross Nov 09, 2016

This has to be a Joke right?

You mean they actually released a full beta version, that doesn’t even work. Do you have ANY idea what Beta “RELEASE” actually means?

Kodi with addons not updating. You may as well release a version that brings you straight back to the command prompt. Silly people.

Tried a clean install of Beta 5 on a Surface 3 and on my PC (Both Windows 10). It installs but none of the addons will update they all fail on both devices. It’s almost like the repo is offline.

Oh…and yes it is in the Blog…and I didn’t see it the 1st time…sorry. Wonder when it will be fixed…

    • kipo Nov 26, 2016

As Gavla Sevinho wrote, just create “temp” folder inside “%appdata%/kodi/” and it will work.

      • tooonche Nov 30, 2016

thanks from Albania, perfect solution. ;)

  • kimkl Oct 29, 2016

What kind of CPU load are we talking about, compared to beta3 or beta4,
And it seems there are more new issues, so should i expect a beta6 real soon and skip beta5

  • ZeCa Oct 29, 2016

Still no PVR IPTV client for android?

  • Florian Oct 29, 2016

    Great job!!!

    • Mighty Oct 30, 2016

It sucks. Works only with old processor (up to S905x), but with the new S912 only Kodi 16 /16.1 works well when you try to decode h265 files (files are play with what seems a 640*480 or lower resolution, and then upscaled to 1080p…..).

Only way to play h265 is to remove hardware decoding (but then the video does not play smoothly).

  • dik Oct 29, 2016

Hi guys, great work! But I noticed a bug in Win32Beta5 when using the PVR addon watching LiveTV (I use VU+Enigma2 Client), the bug was there in previous versions already. When watching a Live TV channel in 1080i, the deinterlacer is not active by default, although it is set to DXVA. When I change the Deinterlace option using the Video options to disable and then directly reenable DXVA, it works fine. Also switching the View Settings to “16:9″ or any other mode enables the deinterlacer. Hardware is Intel Graphics, checking another similar hardware shows the same issue with the deinterlacer. Any ideas?

  • KRach Oct 29, 2016

Hey, Ive got a problem with krypton on my sony android tv. ive updated 16.1 to 17 beta 5 and now I cant play any movie, they just dont start. Any idea?

  • KRach Oct 29, 2016

Strange, i installed 16.1 again and now ive got almost same problem. there is audio but now video when I start a movie

  • Melons2 Oct 29, 2016

Krypton beta 2 and 3 worked fine on my Dell desktop Windows 10 and Lenovo Q190 Windows 10.
Beta 4 and 5 have crash issues on my Lenovo but not on my Dell? Wonder why?

  • J Oct 30, 2016

Not sure why but on Windows 64bit nothing installs at all (Not Updating – Installing) not sure why :/

  • DreadfulDrummer Oct 30, 2016

I’ve been trying out the UWP version and it’s come to my attention that, no matter what I do, Windows won’t allow me to alter or even add any files to the app folders, for instance, to change the splash screen or add an advancedsettings.xml file. Take Ownership doesn’t even give me the required permissions to work this way.
At least there’s a splash screen changer app that works well but, if there wasn’t, that wouldn’t exactly be a deal breaker. There isn’t, however, a working advancedsettings.xml editor for Krypton (please, PLEASE – correct me, if I’m wrong!), as Krypton has modified the syntax employed in advanced settings.

Anyone have any solutions bar the obvious doing it the right way and installing real Kodi? I want to keep testing the UWP at least until stable.

    • Martijn Oct 30, 2016

You are doing it all wrong. You should never, ever change something in the app folder. Go to userdata

  • Diplomat Oct 30, 2016

DTS passthrough on Fire TV still broken since beta 2. Please fix.

    • Fritsch Nov 01, 2016

It’s not supported by firetv fw. Api Level 23 is needed.

      • Diplomat Nov 03, 2016

Uh-huh. So it was just a bug that DTS worked just fine on Kodi 15, 16, and 17 beta 1, right?

      • Diplomat Nov 03, 2016

Wait, I just found the forum thread about passthrough changes in v17. Did you seriously remove DTS passthrough from all FTV products because they’re Android 5? That is one of the most important features of Kodi on Fire TV (at least for me anyway.) So there won’t be any more usable Kodi updates for that media player, I take it. A lot of users will be left disappointed…

        • hogfan Nov 11, 2016

I hope this is not true! I’ve been running the Krypton Betas and just now realized that I’m not getting DTS Passthrough anymore. The original FireTV is still a solid playback device. Are we really only DD (AC3) Passthrough going forward on this device if we want to use Krypton or newer builds? This is disappointing as I just started encoding my Blu Rays, many of which have DTS audio.

          • Diplomat Nov 27, 2016

Yes, they changed the way Kodi does audio passthrough so that it only supports DTS under Android 6+. If they don’t bring back the old method, this marks the end of Kodi updates for Fire TV. (We all know hell will freeze over before Fire TV will get Android 6.) If you don’t like this arrangement, please let the devs know at http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=289735 .

  • Venki Oct 30, 2016

The video getting lost in Sony Android TV when you play videos second time after restart. Need to restart again to make it work. It also crashes the video in other players like MX Player/VLC

    • Sabhi Nov 24, 2016

I’m facing exactly same problem on my Sony TV as well.. Beta3 was working fine, so switched back to that. Please update me if you find any solution. I’ll do the same..

  • Poupart Oct 30, 2016

You guys rock ! Keep up the good work ! BTW, the new default skin is awesome !

    • kevin mccoy Nov 10, 2016

      Thank u. will try

  • Ninga Oct 30, 2016

I hate this new Wall view option, why did you change it from previous? now I cant see quality, year or if I did watch the movie. Please revert it back as it was in Beta 3,2 and precious builds

    • Jan van Westland Oct 30, 2016

I agree. In the end I always choose functionality over good looks!!!

      • atreyu Nov 08, 2016

        Well just install confluence.
        I dont see an issue

  • Spen Oct 30, 2016

3d not working for me android kb2 box. Was nor working in 16.1 for me, just was nit 3d and hurt my eyes! Went to beta 2 still same, went to beta 4 and wored great watched a few films but it then stopped and was like beta 2 an 16.1 again, just gone to beta 5 and now I get full screen 2d, says side by side but only the menus are, video is 2d

    • Silvatyrant Dec 22, 2016

Same here. Using Beta 7 now on Android and monoscopic doesn’t work. No 3D detection (TV doesn’t go into 3D mode automatically).

  • Daniel Oct 31, 2016

    I can’t install Confluence… unseable.

  • JF Oct 31, 2016

On android box (Amlogic S905X) new beta 5 causes a black bar to show on bottom on the screen when videos are playing. If hardware acceleration is disabled the black bar won’t show but video playback gets choppy and 4k content wont play (red or green flashes…) Some content shows no video and only sound until passthrough is enabled. Is someone experiencing the same problem?

    • Andy Nov 01, 2016

I have the same problem with the black bar at the bottom when playing any video. Im also on an android box (Amlogic S912) Will downgrade to beta4 since it was better for me :)

      • sham Nov 02, 2016

Black bar at the bottom quite annoying. Please fix it in next beta

    • kuro Nov 01, 2016

I have the same problem on Minix U1 (Amlogic S905) and it’s quite annoying.

  • Jeff Oct 31, 2016

When I installed the Beta5 on my Windows 10 desktop, I lost all my previous settings, addons, etc. Everything has defaulted.

  • Graham Oct 31, 2016

This version appears to foobar add-ons. Even on a clean install it won’t let me add add-ons or update any. Literally none.

    • John Oct 31, 2016

I have the same problem. I cannot install/add/update anything. What is the issue?

    • atreyu Nov 01, 2016

Its a known issue as described

  • David Gerhardt Nov 01, 2016

Running the OSX version, everything works perfectly, addons, videos and DSP audio.

    Thanks guys

  • Saed Nov 01, 2016

hello. thank you very much for this great effort.

my query. Windows does not perform passtrough audio. or DTS, Dolby Digital, or TRUE-HD etc … it is true or is my problem? either store the UWP

    • Lufia_V Nov 02, 2016

DTS passthrough works on my Windows device, however in Kodi the Audio Output Device must be set to WASAPI, rather than DIRECTSOUND under Settings/System/Audio Output. Additionally, under the Windows Control Panel, Sound, Default Device, Advanced the box for “Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device” needs to be checked I believe. With both the above settings set correctly, passthrough audio works appropriately (for me).

  • Vincent Zebraitis Nov 01, 2016

Here’s a trivial item, but one that affects the view of the product:

I purchased several Surface 3 devices, used. Like them, and they work great for KODI 17 Beta.

However, the graphics are “wrong” in the skin. Posters are squished horizontally, with the edges cut off. In short, it’s not proportional to the screen size.

Video playback is great, and that is not an issue.

So, since the big announcement of KODI being in the windows marketplace, and the Surface capabilities… I just thought I would throw that out there.

  • PacoC Nov 01, 2016

I have just installed Kody 17 beta 5 on my PC with W10-64. I can not do anything. Changing language to spanish fails. When I try to install a repo I get the message that failed to install a dependancy. I even try a portable install (I read that in another blog) but unfortunately It also fails. This Is my first Kodi installation in this PC so it’s been a clean one. I’ll appreciate any comment.

    • jim Nov 03, 2016

Welcome to my world. Not only can I not install anything, I can’t exit the app. I have to force close every time. I can’t watch South Park episodes because it says I have a bad internet connection. I can’t display weather because because installation fails. On a positive note, Watch ESPN works so there’s that.

      • silentbob343 Nov 06, 2016

Same here, i also dont get system sounds even though they are enabled and nothing is playing that would mute them. On a positive note the YouTube is working on this version. Wasn’t working on v16 for me.

    • marcin.uliasz Nov 03, 2016

I have the same problem with this version…

  • Solomalee Nov 01, 2016

Thanks to everyone involved – Loving Kodi 17 since Beta 4, so stable it’s good enough for daily productive use. I can finally say I am looking forward to the end of Window Media Centre after many long years of service.

Estuary is a really nice skin, the only concern is the size of the text in the TV guide and some other places which is just a little too small for a 40″ TV viewed from the sofa.

  • Seb Nov 01, 2016

    Great work!!!
However, updating or installing addons from repro or ZIP files fail in Krypton Beta 5 on my Mac with OS X 10.11.6, too.
Manual unpacking ZIPs and drag the addons into the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Kodi/addons works.

  • milan53 Nov 01, 2016

hi, what version of database is this release using?

  • Mr. No Good Nov 02, 2016

Well, I downloaded the newest version of Kodi and……..
Its GREAT!!! The New look is much better than Version 16.

  • TaXc Nov 02, 2016

Perfekt work! Looks great. Still a bit buggy.
NPVR is not working (yet) and a film was hanging each 5-10 minutes. But hey …it’s a beta!
After restarting the film started properly.

Design is very clear and cleaned up! The reaction is faster then in old versions!
    Just keep it up.

  • Cuco Nov 03, 2016

Great work guys!!! keep it up!!

I have a problem since beta5 with remote going crazy, its a mce remote. Beta 4 was fine.

  • daniel Nov 03, 2016

Please fix the infinite loop WORKING
it appears sometime when I click some channel. And I can´t click on any channel until the damn Working dissapears. and it never does.

  • Mick Nov 03, 2016

With Beta 5 zapping on PVR (changing chanels) always buffers for 10 Seconds.
    (Raspberry 3 / LibreElec)
    Is there a solution?

  • Daryl Nov 03, 2016

Who don’t understand the work “BETA” if you are not happy running Beta remove it and install 16.1, beta are for user to test and give good feedback so bugs can be address. What beta is not is a bitching session on how bad the beta is so if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem.

    • PacoC Nov 04, 2016

I understand what BETA means. I apppreciate very much the good job these guys are doing. I have just added my comment in order for those guys to know some problems but I can not check anything because I can not install anything.

    • soliter26 Nov 04, 2016

  • Trenchant Nov 03, 2016

Did Android video playback get even worse yet again? I can’t seem to play any videos without the video freezing up 15-30 seconds at a time as the audio continues until it syncs back up. Basically, the audio works fine, but the video will freeze every 15-30 seconds for 15-30 seconds.

It’s been bad enough as it is that you basically can’t seek back or forward without causing the video to lock up 9 times out of 10.

I’m dropping out of the beta program. I can’t take these automatic Google Play updates anymore that keep making things worse on me. I truly hope Kodi 17 does not go final with any sign of these problems still present. You can’t change the coat of paint while breaking absolute minimum core functionality and call it a day… These type of issues needed to be fixed in the Alpha stage.

    • Martijn Nov 04, 2016

Feel free to start contributing yourself as our code is publicly available

      • Mark Nov 08, 2016

Or just use SPMC since Kodi won’t accept Android commits from him and he makes a great Android port.

        • Martijn Nov 08, 2016

Where did you find these lies?

          • Mark Nov 09, 2016

OK, is reject a better word for it than “won’t accept”? koying got “sick of those games” (his words) where his commits to Android repeatedly got rejected so he made his own build, SPMC for Android. The point is he dedicates his build to Android and it works very well.

Meh, none of this matters; Trump’s going to be elected, and we’re all going to die! :o (

    • Richard Ayotte Nov 07, 2016

or Hillary is going to be elected and we’re all going to die!

JC, how did politics sneak in here. I deleted my fb account just to get away from it. It’s like the political version of Walking Dead.

      • Donnie Robertson Jan 04, 2017

“WALKING DEAD”? YOU dare belittle “WALKING DEAD”? SHAME! SHAME! May all you kids be born naked and of either the MALE or FEMALE gender! SHAME! WALKING DEAD ROCKS! HARD!

  • Ray Nov 04, 2016

Since beta3 I’m having problems with video playback on my Philips android tv. When hardware acceleration is on I only see a black screen (subs and audio are still working)! When I disable hardware acceleration the video is visible once again but not running flawlessly. Did something change in the hardware accelleration / can I fix it in any way?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Navindra Nov 04, 2016

We need some better x265 or HEVC decoders. None of the videos I have with it plays properly with or without Hardware Acceleration.

  • Navindra Nov 04, 2016

We also need support for 10bit color.

  • Tommy Nov 04, 2016

Thanks for all the hard work, kodi is the best (as always).

Been a longtime user, first xbox, then windows, then android, and now linux.

  • Alex Nov 05, 2016

hi overall the beta5 is a good one, but my videoplayback espacially sd livetv interlacing is worse than in beta 3 and 4 on ubuntu and tvheadend

    • dik Nov 05, 2016

try to disable, and then reenable the deinterlacer. It seems to be a bug that it is off by default, although the options say it is enabled.

      • Alex Nov 05, 2016

Can you please tell me the exact location for this setting in the estuary Skin?

  • cavesprings Nov 06, 2016

I don’t know if these are a kodi thing. I’m using the generic build of libreelec retroplayer beta 5.
I can’t seem to get subtitles enabled by default. Trying to enable by playing a video, bringing up the OSD and going to audio and subtitle settings then enable subtitles and set as default for all media, then choosing yes on reset any previously saved values. When I play another video I have to enable them manually.

When I go to a folder of videos, bring up the context menu and choose “play from here,” when the second video starts playing it’s real jumpy (tearing? or glitchy)

  • skot Nov 07, 2016

you cant buy it from the link provided, and it doesn’t show up in search, im running window 8. as of 11/6/16

  • Charlie Nov 07, 2016

  • paul Bradb Nov 07, 2016

beta 5, kodi 17, unable to load confluence skin, hope this is going to be available, dont like new setup

  • paul Bradb Nov 07, 2016

sorry, missed information I should have given, windows 10, used beta 5, kodi 17, unable to load confluence skin, hope this is going to be available, I dont like new setup

  • tarmi ricmi Nov 07, 2016

kodi 17 beta 5 unable to load confluence skin please fix that.I dont like new setup.

  • Gavla Sevinho Nov 08, 2016

Without too much kissing ass, Kodi 17 is awesome and the new skin really makes it. I’ve not used it before beta 5 and have since tried on FTV, Android, Win 7 and Win 10. I did both Windows installations from fresh – in each case the addons wouldn’t update and I could install new addons. I looked through the logs and it seems on installation, the %appdata%/kodi/temp directory isn’t being created. If I create it manual, everything starts working. Just thought you might want to know…..

    • Terri Hyland Nov 09, 2016

      Give this man a medal!

    • chevi Nov 12, 2016

      Thanks, it worked!

    • Raymond Nov 15, 2016

Thank you ! I had reverted to KODI 16.1 because of that issue of Windows installations from fresh – in each case the addons wouldn’t update and I could install new addons

  • Anna Nov 08, 2016

    Kodi 17 Krypton beta 5:
    - Xbox controller vibrates constantly, every single time I do smth; No way to turn it off.
    - Buffering window info was small and a the bottom of the screen now it fades whole movie/show and distrupts viewing process
    - Movie icons (tiles) are square now, so there is a huge empty bad looking space on all of the lists (because movie and tv show icons are rectangles
    Had to donwgrade to kodi-17.0-Krypton_alpha3….AGAIN

  • Georgexy Nov 08, 2016

The screen calibration is always reset to default.

    When would be v.17 final?

  • Scope Nov 09, 2016

    Kodi 17, Beta 6, 20161109

Since I last updated (a week?) movies have started stuttering, however as soon as I bring up the OSD it plays fine, with no stuttering, close OSD and it starts to stutter again.. Anybody else experiencing this?

    • Eddy Nov 20, 2016

Seeing the exact same behavior here.

Moved from 17.0~git20160823.0914-beta1-0trusty to 17.0~git20161028.1906-beta5-0trusty and now playback stutters unless any sort of OSD is up.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

  • Strawman Nov 10, 2016

For the first time since XBMC, I won’t be upgrading to a new version. Without the back button, the application is unusable in a Windows tablet. Sad.

  • johnlemon Nov 10, 2016

Is a deband option planned for kodi soon?

  • rainman74 Nov 12, 2016

    Still Alpha!

  • John Barry Nov 13, 2016

    Working as expected, thanks guys

O KODI 17 – Beta 5, não funciona plenamente no Windows 10, pois não converte a linguagem do Inglês para o Português.

  • Frogmort Nov 14, 2016

When I watch widescreen movies, I lower my projector to where the bottom black bar is off the bottom of my screen in order to keep it close to the center channel speaker and so I don’t have to look up as high. I also like to take screenshots sometimes to compare different quality encodes. I really like everything about this new v17 EXCEPT that now when I pause the video to lower my projector or take a screenshot, there is a huge black bar covering the entire bottom of the screen which makes this impossible. Is there any way to move or temporarily hide the huge black pause bar across the bottom of the screen?

  • smygarn Nov 15, 2016

I’ve been followed and used Kodi since the beginning and it has to the most unstable software of all time! I’m still using it though, because it’s nice with lots of features. No other players are really better.

  • josh Nov 15, 2016

No Skin Updates? No Addon Updates? No Surround Sound?
It is clear the KODI Team is trying to eliminate Windows users.

    • Martijn Nov 15, 2016

      Sure, sure

  • JB Nov 15, 2016

If I may; constructive criticism is of value and worth noting. However, negative criticism (and there is a difference) is counter-productive and unwanted. Kodi is not a commercial product for sale to the public from a for-profit company. Kodi developers are a group of volunteers who love coding and creativity, contributing numerous hours in time and effort, providing a free product to the masses to enjoy. Keep in mind, Kodi is an evolving program. Very exciting indeed. Thank you to Martijn and crew.

  • Dubastik Nov 16, 2016

It would be nice that kodi 17 can handle the menu blu ray !!

  • Joe Nov 17, 2016

When you fast forward or rewind on fireTV box video freezes, can still hear audio while it is frozen. Eventually video comes back. Also after watching a video, when it finishes and goes back to the previous screen of the listings, it goes to the top of list rather than highlighting item that was just played. Other than that, loving it

    • John Hooper Nov 18, 2016

Have the same issue. Also with SPMC. Really annoying. You have to kill the app from Settings.

    • matt Nov 21, 2016

+1 Same here. Very annoying. Seeking in video is a painful process with Krypton. No problems on FireTV before this. When I seek in video, even if it’s playing from wired lan, it has to buffer and then often fails to seek the new location. You have to stop playback, restart and resume, or, wait for about 30 seconds. But if you wait, you hear audio with no video (or a still frame) for quite a while before the video starts again. THIS IS TERRIBLE ON FIRETV!!!!

  • Matt Nov 17, 2016

When the stable v17 will be released?

  • bartvincke Nov 17, 2016

I am still have the problem that the thumbnails ( icon wall view ) are a lot smaller then they were in confluence. They appear very small and inside a transparent box.
you can barely make out what is on the thumb/icon
I have looked around but find nowhere any info about what file and what code needs to be altered to have these icons approx the same size as they were in confluence

  • Cuco Nov 17, 2016

when’s next beta on windows store?

  • Hallo Nov 17, 2016

beta 5 fails on add-on updates windows 8

    • kipo Nov 26, 2016

As Gavla Sevinho wrote, just create “temp” folder inside “%appdata%/kodi/” and it will work.

  • Dirk Dwinnex Nov 17, 2016

Really great work on Krypton guys. Previously I always thought Confluence to be the best look available until I saw Estouchy and Estuary which are by far the most elegant and “easy on the eyes” skins I’ve yet to try out. Anxiously awaiting the stable release!

  • OMR Nov 17, 2016

I was able to update Picture Slideshow Screensaver, PSS, by looking at the end in the kodi.log file in:

First thing, manually create a temp folder there.
If it still fails, manually delete the old addon folder in:

    Update/Install then works.
Version 4.2.0 of PSS seems to have fixed a memory leak that caused Kodi to crash after running the slideshow on 40k+ pictures for a few hours.
Returning to Kodi after a day of slideshow active (PC always on) it has never crashed, but hos on occasions become unresponsive.

    • Bernd Nov 20, 2016

Missing “temp” causes most of my Addon and Konfiguration Update Problems. Thanks for the hint!

      • Bernd Nov 20, 2016

But the Log only contains one line

        13:25:12 T:224 ERROR: XFILE::CDirectory::Create – Error creating C:\Users\ba\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\temp\d319212f-e9ee-4835-95e1-432b84e3d0d7

  • Carl Nov 19, 2016

Hello. Very nice job so far and all is working quite well. My question is about the channel numbers in the TV guide. If it is a two or three number channel the number lists properly. If it is a four number channel such as 1003, it lists as 10.. Any setting I can change to fix this? Thank you.

  • Hunter Mac Nov 21, 2016

is anyone using this new software on a firestick? pros, cons anyone?

  • Vorm Nov 22, 2016

Nightly (ARM 64 V8 21/11/16 16:28 on NVidia Shield TV) is still not loading video on the majority of my TV programs. Shows a black screen and 100% buffering.

Seems to be that the audio on all files not playing is showing as DOLBY rather than AAC or AC3. Coincidence?

    • Ray Nov 22, 2016

I’m having the same issue on my Android tv. When you disable hardware acceleration, the video is watchable eventhough it is stuttering…

  • Kodilover Nov 26, 2016

Please Fix the screensize to a permanent one with a button. Every thing we watch we have to adjust the screensize to 16:9. Not even a videorecorder had this problem. Give us DirectX12 everybody can upgrade and has acces to good multimedia screens.

  • Kodilover Nov 28, 2016

Could we please mark the movies, shows, songs etc. we already seen thank you.

  • highwayman Nov 28, 2016

While I have found Krypton 17 Beta 5 (via Win10) very good and stable, one annoyance is that I don’t seem to be able to find the file address for movie files when browsing in Estuary/list view.
This was a useful feature under former versions for those like myself who like to weed out those duplicate movies collected over time and split over several drives/partitions.

  • Spacebrain Nov 29, 2016

I’ve had problems running v16.1 Jarvis on my Minix (Android) device, but I can happily report the beta 5 is working smoothly. And outstanding performance you guys have done, also with the MySQL integration (Searching used to be a pain in the butt). Also DTS and surround works perfectly well, and I really like the new skin and features, such as being able to see the movies in progress or not fully watched TV episodes.

  • Donnie Robertson Jan 04, 2017

DAVE ASKS: “Hello, when will the new kodi 17 be ready to download? Thank You” — Dave.

Typically right after the SECOND COMING of CHRIST DAVE! NO SOONER! THE naked women are a distraction so it slows the flow of the “go”. Sorry – but it’s the best compared to the rest so we must mellow back, throttle down, wipe off the organs and HOPE that the good guys can defeat the “WE WANT TO BE PAID FOR YOU WATCHING OUR CONTENT!”. There is sadly NO FREE RIDE! YES — it SUCKS, but what are we to do?

Have a great New Year! LOVE AND KISSES<
