  • Full iPhone 5 resolution is now enabled
  • Volume buttons on Android devices now control Android volume, rather than XBMC volume
  • Volume buttons on OSX devices once again control OSX volume, rather than XBMC volume

  • iOS 6 support on the AppleTV 2.
  • XBMC does not crash when listed on the AppleTV top shelf
  • Added support for additional Xbox 360 controller types
  • Broader and more intelligent support for CEC devices
  • Fixed problems with several addons due to broken binary read/write in our python interface
  • Language fixes, including 7 new languages: Albanian, Burmese, Malay, Persian (Iran), Tamil (India), Uzbek, Vietnamese
  • AirPlay fixes, including making discovery of XBMC more reliable on OSX
  • Numerous crashing and stability fixes across all platforms

For all users interested in maximum stability, we highly recommend that you update from 12.1 to 12.2. This is the XBMC you were looking for.

To update to XBMC 12.2, please visit our download page, which includes downloads for Windows, OSX, and Android, and instructions for Linux, iOS, the Apple TV, and the Raspberry Pi. XBMCbuntu users can see these instructions for upgrading to 12.2 using ppa:team-xbmc/ppa.

If you have any problems read the Frodo FAQ, the Raspberry Pi FAQ, or the Android FAQ, depending on your version.

How To Help

If you would like to help with XBMC, we encourage you to submit bugs in Trac, provide support in our Forums where you can, or donate to the Foundation if you like.

For those of you who are tracking and submitting bugs: You may notice that Github has an “Issues” section. The Team would very much appreciate it if you did not submit bug reports through that section, but rather continued to use the forums and Trac. At the moment, the Team is using Issues as a concise means of grouping and identifying particular bugs that they gather from the forum and Trac sources. Thanks for your help!

  • Paul Colby May 03, 2013

Great!! I always love getting XBMC updates – just gets better and better :)

  • James B May 03, 2013

Any idea if the issue regarding no audio and unwatchable video frame rate slowdown upon restarting XBMC was resolved? (Windows platform.)

  • natethomas May 03, 2013

    @Paul Colby
Should be up now. It may have just taken a sec.

  • marco May 03, 2013

Thumbs up! Anyone have an idea if the DB sheme changed? Asking for my mysql setup….

  • natethomas May 03, 2013

There should be no major changes like that between .0, .1, and .2.

  • RoRoo May 03, 2013

Great!!! I hope this fixes my crash problem when I change the language of a movie on my pi!

  • Francesco May 03, 2013

  • CW-kid May 03, 2013

Any fixes for wma audio files? Thanks

  • tn1 May 03, 2013

As always, thanks for your time and efforts, love xbmc

  • Go Cat Go May 03, 2013

Does this mean that scanning new movies goes back to the way it worked in Eden? I tried the fix listed in the faq but that didn’t work for me. I’m using openelec 3.1 btw.

  • Fredrik May 03, 2013

Is there an easy way to update?

you need to rescan your library for that to work

  • Alessandro May 03, 2013

    Great job!

  • GOodfella218 May 03, 2013

Does this have to be a fresh install??? So will I have to uninstall previous version?? Getting an error when I try to upgrade…

  • happyshow May 03, 2013

Does auto mount for SATA drives work in XBMCbuntu yet? So aggravating.

  • Go Cat Go May 03, 2013

I forgot to day Thank you and it’s a great job! Much apprecieated.

  • David May 03, 2013

  • Stnet May 03, 2013

    @James B and @Tim,

I have had also this problem with version 12.0.
Platform: Windows 8, Soundcard: Asus Xonar.

Can someone tell me (us) if the no sound and low frame-rate (2 fps) problem has been solved in version 12.2 ?

  • xbmcuser2000 May 03, 2013

Unfortunately now it has a bug on channel changing. I can’t use the number of the channel nor the OSD menu nor the up and down arrows to change channels. I only can change channels from the channel list.

    12.1 doesn’t have this problem.

Thanks for the great work, anyway.

  • joe d May 03, 2013

Using W7 64bit and can’t figure out why Frodo doesn’t auto detect smb shares when choosing windows smb shares as video source? had no problem with eden. my shares do not require password and can be seen and accessed by all on lan with exception of frodo.I tried manually adding address of shares, but frodo prompts for password.I tried leaving password blank since there is none and still get prompt.I’m currently using a workaround by adding shares as “network drives” then adding them as video source, but doesn’t seem like this should be necessary. Is there a fix for this or is this how it will be with Frodo. Overall happy with Frodo and haven’t found a reason to revert back to eden yet.

  • joe d May 03, 2013

Please disregard my above comment. just updated from 12.2 testing build to 12.2 final and all is working great! SMB shares now quickly detected. Great work guys!

  • James B May 03, 2013

I didn’t have this problem with 12.0 but it popped up in 12.1. I also have a Asus Xonar DG but on Windows 7.

    Anyone with any insight?

  • JD May 04, 2013

    great work as always!!
just wondering when will be support for google tv? or its not any time soon?

  • ace20022 May 04, 2013

The artist and year fix is included.

  • Grim May 04, 2013

It’s sad but 12.x can’t play smoothly blue ray remux on AMD E350 but 11.0 can.
    Huge performance regression :(

  • Ben91 May 04, 2013

Sorry but it’s not really clear at all for the users, about bugs.

Do we need to report bugs in trac or in the forums ?

  • Bobby Blixberg May 04, 2013

Cover art bug still not fixed… :-/

  • pasarica May 04, 2013

Might wanna update the links on the download page. XBMXbuntu is still pointing to 12.00 although on the ftp 12.2 are available.

  • JonyBravo May 04, 2013

Great now the update of plugins on 12.2 is done and it works fine for me.

    Way to go.

    Best Regards

  • tman May 04, 2013

All you guys do is complainan about the project but dont realise it’s open source

  • tman May 04, 2013

look into you fstab file on linux

  • Ned Scott May 04, 2013

But XBMC does play bluray smoothly on that system. At least from the feedback that I’ve seen. Post to the forums and we’ll find out why it’s having issues for you, and hopefully find you a solution.

  • Ned Scott May 04, 2013

It depends on how confidant you are if it is a bug or not. If you’re not sure, or you want to gather more info before reporting (like see what OSes are affected, etc) then post to the forums. If you’re confidant about the bug being a bug, and you file a complete bug report (debug log, etc) then you can go directly to Trac.

  • Ned Scott May 04, 2013

You can install the new version right on top of the old one.

  • Ned Scott May 04, 2013

Please report the issue on the forums or point to an existing thread or Trac ticket, so that we can be sure that the devs know about this, and to make sure it’s not a misconfiguration, etc.

  • stephen May 04, 2013

is it the “error opening file”? I ask because i’m getting that when trying to install 12.2 over 11.0 on Win7 x86 – and I can’t go further than that…. :(

  • toki May 04, 2013

thank you xbmc staff, this version seems to be working great thus far. keep up the good work!

  • mftvrocks.org May 05, 2013

Any plan to provide auto upgrade in windows?

  • Andreas Gröger May 05, 2013

Guys, this is real good stuff, also on the PI it now runs very smooth and one can enjoy its media files soo much.

Thansk for all the good work!!

  • Andreas Gröger May 05, 2013

BTW: There is a fine RaspberryPi package existing from Michael Gorven, prevents you from the need of compiling it by yourself and is also updated with the latest release 12.2.

Used it from 12.0 on and it works like every package from the repos, one can even update it with apt-get….

  • Big-red May 05, 2013

    Restart then try again.
    Worked for me

  • James B May 05, 2013

    @Stnet @Tim

The problem still exists for me in 12.2 unfortunately. Fresh install works fine but restarting the pc or even just XBMC causes it to permanently lose audio and have low frame rate playback. No other audio services running. With all of those fixes listed above how could this be overlooked still?!

I mean it’s not that big of a deal. I only have to reinstall XBMC every single time I want to use it. *heavy sarcasm*

  • Stnet May 05, 2013

    @James B
    Thanks for testing!
I’ll just keep using Eden for now until the audio problem has been fixed.

    @XBMC Team
Don’t get me wrong… You guys are making a very awesome media center program, that I use every day. All for FREE!
Many thanks! Only as a every day user, the audio problems are a little annoying :)

  • tarasian666 May 05, 2013

After update if i switch channel in pvr (pvr demo) the stream stops, but if i do “clean start” (player is stopped) channel it works fine

  • BJ May 05, 2013

installed 12.2 from 12.1 and lost HDMI output.
found out the hdmi driver was missing, so reinstalled hdmi audio driver, or in my case updated the graphic card driver incd. hd audio driver.

  • Jonas May 06, 2013

I have installed 12.0 and trying to update but I get the following when running (after update). I don’t understand the dependency mess… I have added theppa’s successfully.

    sudo apt-get install python-software-properties pkg-config
    sudo add-apt-repository -r ppa:whatever-ppa-you-have-now
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:whatever-ppa-here
    sudo apt-get update

Please add in using tags for tv shows in smart playlists. I know you consider it a feature and not a bug but it seems odd that movies can do it. Plus whats the point of tv show tags if you can’t use them?

Ok, someone has done it. New channel switching issue reported.

    xmbc was downloaded.
    It is very good software.

There is hope of future upgrade.
I want you to correspond to the keyboard input of those other than English.
    I am aiding you.

  • Andrew May 06, 2013

Wow, finally some stability for my HD4000 on Mint. Between this and some X updates I installed most of my crashing is gone when going full screen. After I pressed \ about 10 times repeatedly XBMC went black and stopped responding, but before it was about a 50/50 chance going full screen would crash. Thanks for the update.

  • Dave Roberts May 06, 2013

I am having problems sharing files using UPnP between 2 xbmcbuntu machines after the upgrade to 2.2.
The remote machine no longer appears as available.
It was ok on 2.1, has anyone had a similar experience?

  • Bart May 06, 2013

Can’t find the 12.2 in the Git. How do I get it?

  • Fabio May 07, 2013

It’s a wonderfull software, but, infortunately it doesn’t run AVI videos at Windows 8….

  • Ben91 May 07, 2013

    @Ned Scott

Thank you very much. It’s 100% clear now.

  • aisvidrigailov May 07, 2013

Same problem here, both on Windows 7 and Raspbmc (had no problem with 12.1)@Olliver

  • LouSkunt May 07, 2013

    Thanks for everything!
this is the best application ever. Never stop.

  • David May 08, 2013

I’m the only one who suffers the bug that when the player reachs the end of the video continue playing to the infinite? It’s not very disturbing, but annoying, anyone knows any solution? The rest is perfect, each version getting smoother and better, keep going!!!

  • Marcel May 09, 2013

I migrated from Windows Frodo 12.0 to 12.2 and my Wifi connections keep dropping to limited connection both in Windows 7 and 8 64 bits.
Installed latest drivers, reconfigured router to 802.11 n 40Hz only, removed crapware options, and the same, library starts updating and in minutes it will drop the wifi. Playing movies drop also. Downgraded to 12.0 problems seems gone most of the time, at least I can play the movies on my network. Any ideas why this is happening. Thanks for the hard work.

  • adamas May 10, 2013

Guys, in the latest nightly the “Use a fullscreen window rather than true fullscreen” option is gone (which makes 1080p impossible), as well as many other options actually. Is really this the direction XBMC is going for or is it just a nightly issue?

  • Rj May 10, 2013

I upgrade 12.1 version to 12.2 on my apple tv 2 , but now crash! why don’t work? I try remove and re-install more times.. I try install from Nito or from terminal but nothing.. how can reinstall 12.1? where i can find it?

  • JonyBravo May 11, 2013

After upgrading to 12.2 Frodo Windows. From day or two i have notice that something is updated. And now the 1channel is not working any more. Sorting also the movies is not working. Source are not founded.

I tried now and downgrade to 12.1 Frodo and delete all personal also phisicly directory XMBC so all the cleaning is done. And still 1channel is not working.

    Please help…

    Best Regards

  • natethomas May 11, 2013

XBMC is completely unrelated to 1channel and will provide no support for it.

  • Justin May 14, 2013

Have you fixed the crackeling audio on ac3? doesn’t happen on all, but it should not be happening at all. All other formats are fine. Sound and vid are all set up correctly.

While we are here, xbmc has problems with 50 and 60 hz video, it is juddery and in some cases unwatchable. DVDs are impossible to watch. 23/4hz stuff is fine.

I’ll update you on this new release…

  • Justin May 14, 2013

Nope still crackeling. When are you going to fix these audio/video problems?

  • Ciprian May 16, 2013

Does this version work on Cubieboard?

  • zag Jun 24, 2013

    Nice and stable ;)

  • migitwolf Jul 14, 2013
